Women's Leadership and Diversity in a Male-Dominated Logistics Industry
Exclusive interview with Co-Founder and CEO of Logisly, Roolin Njotosetiadi. She is one of the few women who managed to build a logistics company.
Often thought of as a male-dominated space, logistics actually has great opportunities for women as workers. This industry is very broad, encompassing the physical process of gathering resources, transporting or placing these resources for final distribution. However, sometimes there are small pebbles when people try to move against the main beliefs in society. There is an unconscious gender bias that sticks in the mind to act accordingly and restrain one's true intentions from ambition.
Based on research by the International Labor Organization (ILO) entitled Breaking barriers: Unconscious gender bias in the workplaceUnconscious gender bias is defined as an unintentional and automatic mental association based on gender, originating from traditions, norms, values, culture, and/or experience. Automated associations are incorporated into decision making, enabling rapid assessment of individuals by gender and stereotypes.
An assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Denver and lead author of the paper, Daniel Storage observes, "Stereotypes depicting brilliance as a male trait tend to hold women back from achieving prestigious careers."
