A year of operation, WeYap is ready to expand to all major cities in Indonesia

Focus on expansion, overhauling the site's appearance, and acquiring users and merchants

Online directory platform WeYap soon to welcome his first birthday. During a year of operation, the service managed to acquire about five thousand users and 71 thousand visits per month. By the end of this year, it targets to be able to acquire hundreds of merchant spread across major cities in Indonesia.

Available since 18 August 2014, WeYap has become a trusted reference for people to find the best places each city has to offer. WeYap serves destinations such as places to eat, shopping, nightlife, salons and spas, bars, barbershops, boutiques, and many more.

"We are targeting the availability of all cities in Indonesia. Because WeYap is user-generated content, so it makes perfect sense for us to target all cities. Hopefully in the next six months it will be finished," WeYap Co-Founder Kelly Oktavian told DailySocial.

According to Kelly, the interest from its users has become its own spirit for it to immediately expand. Some users try to add new places such as in Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Purwokerto.

Talking about total merchant, WeYap has around 25.000 registered merchants in its database. Regarding the target, Kelly is optimistic to get a minimum of 25 merchant partners new every month until the end of 2015.

Lean Startup

With limited funds and human resources like a startup, WeYap also runs its business with the concept of Lean Startup. From June 2015 to February 2015, WeYap only consisted of two people co-founder. It was only in March 2015 that they recruited new talents to a total of four people. Kelly admits that the features and operations of their site are only 70% of what they expected. In the near future, it will recruit reliable technical talents.

Relying on social media, WeYap is able to reduce marketing costs of less than Rp 5 million per month. The product development process also seems to be done carefully. This is claimed not to narrow WeYap's space to develop. Multiple programs partnerships run in order to acquire more users.

One of them is the Celebrity Card program which is a reward already integrated with 65 brand with more than 70 outlets in Greater Jakarta, Bandung and Bali. Around 90% of programs are still in Jabodetabek due to limited human resources to monitor them. Another program is partnering with Travelio to provide free vouchers for all registered users and new registrants of the WeYap service.

“Starting August 24, there will be assistance from Travelio. Every new user who registers on WeYap will get a voucher worth IDR 50k. As for registered users, we will give vouchers worth Rp. 70 thousand as a form of appreciation. This program will run for the next three months, and the number of vouchers is not limited," Kelly added.

About the app mobile devices which we previously mentioned, Kelly admitted that he wanted to focus on desktop with first. UI/UX overhaul will be one of the focuses for the next six months.
