Muslim Community Platform "Umma" Provides Comprehensive Worship Support Services

Haven't started business monetization yet, still focused on increasing users by launching new features

Applications that contain Islamic content, Muslim Ummah rebranded to become "Umma" as well as formalize its presence after a year of existence. With a new nuance, Umma will bring more features that answer Muslims for reliable information about Islam in one container.

On the occasion of the launch of the service, Head of Bekraf Triawan Munaf said, Umma could be an application suitable for Muslims in the country, especially before the moment of Ramadan.

One of Umma's shareholders, businessman Garibaldi Thohir added, rebranding is the company's efforts to improve the application with a better UI/UX appearance. Even so, in terms of features, it is also enriched so that it can provide more value for users.

"Through Umma, we can provide the best alternative for Muslims. We want to bring Umma not only big in Indonesia, but also in Southeast Asia," he said, Thursday (25/4).

Although not specifically explained, Garibaldi is the majority shareholder in Umma, compared to the other three shareholders. He also said that the company is open to other investors who are interested in entering Umma on condition that they have the same vision and mission.

Umma Features

Umma CEO and Co-Founder Indra Wiralaksmana explained that the Umma application provides three main features, namely worship support features, content, and community that can be accessed for free. In this supporting feature there is a prayer schedule, Qibla direction that can be used in any location based on GPS, and the Al Quran and its translation with audio to practice pronunciation.

Meanwhile, the content feature includes curated videos and articles filled with 80 well-known ustadz and scholars. This content is personalized according to user interests by utilizing artificial intelligence technology.

Finally, this community feature contains groups chat which is moderated to facilitate users who come from various circles to discuss and ask questions with the ustadz who is the builder of the group.

"This community feature sets us apart from other applications. Umma encourages Muslims to work hand in hand to do good to others with positive discussions. More than a year, we have facilitated 80 new communities and will continue to grow," explained Indra.

This feature is available online all-in-one in Umma, so users don't need to download a separate app on their smartphone. Indra said that his party will make Umma an open platform that connects various industries.

For example, the nearby feature connects users with nearby mosques, hospitals, halal restaurants, schools, universities, and more. In fact, the plan is to provide contact services for bathing bodies, a marketplace, to financial finance. All of these plans will be presented gradually.

Indra said Umma would release a special feature to welcome the moment of Ramadan. The presence of this feature is expected to support users in increasing their worship for the whole month.

Haven't monetized yet

Indra explained that Umma's current focus is on enriching features in order to increase the level of user needs for the application. When the app manages to attract more people, the company will decide on monetization by placing ads.

"shareholder we do exist interest for business, but because of the element of responsibility to advance Islam, so now the focus is on improving platformher first. When the amount user has gone up and the dependency level is high, we will start advertising."

As of April 2019, the Umma app has been downloaded more than 2,5 million times with user growth of around 50% per quarter from last year's Ramadan period. The number of active users is said to be almost half of the download figure or about 1 million people.
