TSM Technologies Becomes the First Smartphone Design House in Indonesia

TSM Technologies (TSM) introduces itself as a design house the first smartphone in Indonesia. TSM claims to be ready to support local vendors to create smartphones with 4G LTE technology which are commercially available starting late this year in Indonesia. TSM cooperates with Qualcomm as a manufacturing partner chipset and Sat Nusapersada as a mobile phone manufacturer partner with a factory in Batam.

The term design house in the world of mobile phone production is foreign to the public. As stated by ITB Lecturer Adi Indrayanto, in value chain cell phone maker, independent design house be among the makers chipset and Manufacturer. Design house helps makers to design hardware and/or software for a mobile phone. In the building analogy, design house is the architect, while Manufacturer is the contractor or its civil engineering team.

"As an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM), TSM Technologies is ready to undergo the design process, from software customization, operating system, face-to-face design, product design, to circuit layout design (PCB). We are also proud to be able to work with universities leading companies, such as the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), to empower quality Indonesian human resources," said TSM's Director of Sales and Operations Riswanto.

TSM said it already has the capability to design smartphones with LTE-TDD and LTE-FDD frequencies that are allowed to operate in Indonesia, namely 850, 900, 1800, 2100, and 2300 MHz. TSM itself is working with Sat Nusapersada to build IVO V5 that supports Bolt's LTE-TDD.

Supporting its commitment to build a mobile phone industry in the country, TSM has completed its business infrastructure by building a smartphone manufacturing line (including those with 4G capabilities) at the Sat Nusapersada factory in Batam. TSM Chairman Sam Ali also said that his party is preparing an investment of 20 billion Rupiah only for the development and training of human resources.

TSM CEO Benson E. Kawengian told DailySocial, "TSM itself (number of employees) non-production is more than 20 people in Jakarta. We also have teams in Batam and Bandung. Frankly, we teach the majority of Bandung children (because there are many universities). In 2015, the target is a development plan, in order to gain industry trust."

Benson admits that 4G technology has become a case point that TSM has the capability to do so. However, they also continue to support the manufacture of smartphones with support for 3G and 2G data frequencies.

"We believe there will be a migration to 4G, once it has been granted access from the government," concluded Benson.
