The main premise that Triller offers is very much like TikTok: choose a song from the available collection, record a video, edit it, then share it. For the sake of simplicity, the application is also equipped with features auto editing by utilizing AI-based algorithms.

What's unique about Triller is its monetization system. Triller has two types of currency, Gold and Gems. Gold can be purchased with real money, and serves as a gift to other creators. At a certain amount, the Gold received can be exchanged into Gems, which can then be melted into money.

Following in the footsteps of Instagram which released Reels, towards the end of 2020, Snapchat launched a similar feature which they dubbed Spotlight. Just like TikTok, the maximum supported length for any Spotlight video is 60 seconds, and Snap (the Snapchat developer company) doesn't forget to provide its own music collection based on the licenses they secure from a number of labels.

When this feature was released, Snap also said that they were willing to pay directly for creators whose content was panning view most every day. Unfortunately, Spotlight is only available in 14 countries so far, and Indonesia is still not one of them.

7. YouTube Shorts

Lastly, as I said at the beginning, there is YouTube that doesn't want to lose momentum. Not long after TikTok was blocked in India in the middle of last year, YouTube also tried to fill the void in the country by launching YouTube Shorts. As the name implies, Shorts is specifically designed to accommodate short videos from creators, of course with a vertical format and a duration of no more than 15 seconds.

The downside is that YouTube Shorts is still in beta and so far it's only available in India and the United States. Outside of these two countries, users can actually still make videos for Shorts. This is done by including the hashtag #Shorts in the title or description of the video captured in a vertical orientation, and the duration of the video must also not exceed 60 seconds.
