Koprol's Last Day

Yesterday, 27 August was Koprol's last day. Today Yahoo! will be closing their location-based service purchased in May 2010 as part of their plans to enter the Indonesian market and set up an office here. All of the team members who previously worked on Koprol have left Yahoo! after all the technical and design divisions of Yahoo Indonesia laid off in April, and the remaining transition team eventually left Yahoo! in June to then build Ice House and Barito Labs.

Such that announced in June, the Koprol service is closed and the founders of Koprol have now have the name back and intellectual property rights relating to Koprol. Although the founders of Koprol are free to reuse the Koprol name as long as it doesn't violate the law, they haven't decided what to build with the Koprol name, they just want to keep the spirit of this service alive with whatever they will develop later.

The 27th yesterday was the limit for users to export the data they have in the Koprol service, after which all data will be deleted. Members who have requested to export their Koprol data receive an email with a link to download a .zip file containing all their activity, which can be opened as a web page in Koprol mobile format.

Today Koprol concludes their three year journey. Koprol's own last message read: "Thank you, Yahoo! Thank you Koprollers. See you next time. http://twitter.com/koprol"

While the founders said that they planned to released the new Koprol, there is no indication of what this product or service will look like. Co-founder of Koprol and CEO of Ice House Fajar Budiprasetyo told DailySocial that they hope that existing Koprol users will welcome the new version of Koprol. One thing is for sure, they are not interested in releasing what is should be Koprol 2.0.

Whatever it is, we are waiting to see what will be developed by the team at Ice House and Barito Labs. Koprol is dead. Welcome to New Koprol.
