Temploys and Efforts to "Disrupt" Traditional Office Culture (Updated)

Being a matchmaking service for part-time and remote workers, wants to grow the user base to reach 100 thousand in Indonesia

There is one thing that has always been the attraction of Indonesia in the eyes of business people, namely the potential users who can be embraced from the massive population of Indonesia. That's also the reason for the startup part-time job matchmaking from Singapore named Temploy to start expanding to Indonesia. Through its expansion, Temploy aims to grow its user base in Indonesia to 100, launch a new feature called My Team, and seek to secure Series A funding by the end of 2016.

Temploy is a Singapore-based startup founded by Mark Koh around April 2014. Its mission is to disrupt the traditional office working hours model and empower aspirants to work closer to an ideal and comfortable lifestyle.

Temploy CTO Kenneth Sim said that the establishment of Temploy began when Mark Koh tried to build a system to manage volunteers who provide natural disaster relief in the Philippines. From there, Mark Koh was inspired to develop the system further as a platform that can solve employment problems that do not require special skills.

Kenneth said, “Before founding Temploy, he [Mark Koh] had already broken records in Singapore by doing more than 100 part-time jobs in less than a year. […] It was all he did to test the market before founding Temploy.”

How Temploy works itself is quite simple. In terms of job seekers, after registering and completing their biodata, the next thing to do is fill in their skill set and free time. Meanwhile, in terms of job seekers, Temploy is positioned to help find the best workforce who can help increase productivity.

Explained Business Development Associate Temploy Tony Darmasaputra, in short Temploy will work to find a partner through a pool of potential employees for employers using the matching algorithm developed by Temploy to find the right person for the right job.

Although initially only focused on part-time jobs that were offline, but now Temploy is also starting to facilitate work that can be done independently remote.

Plans for 2016

In March 2015, Temploy get funding in the form of equity from Indonesian companies. It was through this acquisition that Temploy's expansion to Indonesia began. Previously, less than a year after its establishment, Temploy itself has been present in Malaysia, Thailand, and Hungary.

In Indonesia, the city selected as pilot project is Bandung. The reason, according to Kenneth, in Bandung there are many who are looking for part-time work, especially from among students. Currently, the job base available in Temploy itself is only in Jakarta, Denpasar, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Batam.

Regarding the target to be achieved, Kenneth explained that they want to be able to reach up to 100 thousand users at the beginning of their operations in Indonesia. Apart from that, Temploy also plans to add a new feature called My Team. Through this feature, the company will be able to manage workers who have previously been employed.

“We also plan to secure Series A funding this year. We hope that by the end of the year we will be able to obtain it,” added Kenneth.

One thing that became Kenneth's concern when expanding to Indonesia was the language side. Kennet believes that the presence of the local team as well as the Country Manager will be able to handle and understand the Indonesian market better. Currently, there are only three members of the Temploy team in Indonesia.

Temploy's presence in Indonesia will indirectly deal with seribulancer who facilitates part-time work online and also Jofom from Jobstreet who focuses on the market for high school graduates and the equivalent.

Temploy itself is now available in the form of a mobile application that can be downloaded via email Google Play for Android devices. As for iOS devices, it is currently still in the process of further development.

Update: We added a photo of the Temploy team and changed the description of the Country Manager that is currently also carried out by Tony.
