Telkomsel Presenting tSurvey, a Digital Survey Platform Using Telko Data

Telkomsel expand the digital service business portfolio by launching the tSurvey.id platform. This is a digital survey platform that offers solutions for all customer research needs, both in the academic, commercial, cross-industry, social, and other broad research needs.

This solution intersects directly with what JakPat has to offer, Populix, and several other platforms. The capabilities of the tSurvey platform are enriched with telco data insights, so it has several advantages, ranging from a wide range of respondent bases, features targeting respondents with accurate profiles, faster results output, and powerful survey management features user friendly.

Director of Planning and Transformation Telkomsel Wong Soon Nam said, the launch of this platform is a tangible form of the company's commitment to continuing its positioning as a company digital ecosystem enabler by delivering innovation and cutting edge technology.

tSurvey comes as a result of an internal incubation program Telkomsel InnoXtion (now Telkomsel TINC Polaris) which aims to support the creation of data-driven decision-making culture.

Telkomsel itself has a large user base reaching 170 million people throughout Indonesia. There is also internet data, voice, SMS which can be utilized as insight new for companies in making business decisions, especially those that prioritize the consumer aspect.

Since last year, the Data Solution Group business unit Telkomsel carry out various continuous developments to ensure tSurvey becomes a digital survey platform with superior capabilities in the market research industry market. Then, in December 2021, tSurvey began to be commercially utilized and served the market research needs of a number of companies across industries, such as ride-hailing, e-commerce, and FMCG.

One of the users of tSurvey is the Management Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (LM FEB UI) for conducting studies and preparing an annual report titled “2022 Consumer Insight Report” to find out the consumption behavior of Indonesian people from various aspects. In the process of its preparation, tSurvey was able to collect 1.500 respondents throughout Indonesia in one day. Generally, with this quantity it takes a long time.

“Users can determine their own respondents, it can be based on behavior, consumption of data usage, and so on so that the results can be more accurate. There is also no maximum number of respondents," added VP Data Solutions Telkomsel Mia Melinda.

Competitors in the market

The presence of tSurvey certainly enlivens the digital survey platform in Indonesia, previously inhabited by Populix and JakPat. Since last year, Populix updated its “Populix for Business” service by improving the UI/UX to make it easier for clients to get a lot of information about their research projects.

Through the new app, Populix has ambitions to become a "one-stop shop" for businesses to conduct research and gain consumer insights. To support data collection, the Populix app can now recognize charges (e.g. from purchases at E-commerce) respondents with optical character recognition technology or scanning notes through a camera, are rated for accuracy up to 93%.

The concept of collecting data through purchase receipts is not new, previously there was a startup Pomona that did the same thing to help brands understand their customers.

Not only Populix, a similar service is also offered by a startup from Yogyakarta named Jakpat. Using the application and gamification approach, they invite the general public to be respondents in a survey according to their criteria/profile.
