Telkom Blocks Netflix Starting Today

As of January 27, 2016 at 00.00 WIB, all internet connections from Telkom can no longer access Netflix.

Unmitigated, Telkom blocks Netflix for all of its subscriber channels, including IndiHome, WiFi.id and users Telkomsel. The existence of pornographic content on Netflix is ​​also the reason for the blocking.

"We blocked Netflix because it did not have a permit or did not comply with the rules in Indonesia, and it contains a lot of content that is not allowed in this country. We are a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN), must be an example and uphold the sovereignty of the Sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) in business," said Dian.

Dian continued, "We want that business must comply with Indonesian rules. Abroad they (Netflix) cooperate with several operators, is it not here? In fact, if we cooperate with local operators, there are many benefits for both parties."

Regarding content payload, Telkom is willing to work with Netflix as long as content containing pornography and violence is removed.

"If we cooperate directly, we can manage Netflix through the Over The Top (OTT) platform owned by Telkom. This blocking action will not affect our customers, they (Netflix) are still small here. While they are still small, we teach them to follow the rules here. here," concluded Dian.

Previously it was reported that the government gave deadline a month for Netflix to get things done with licensing and legality. In accordance with the instructions of the Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara, to be able to provide content to the Indonesian people, Netflix must be a permanent legal entity or cooperate with local telecommunications operators.
