Snapcart Cancels Expansion Plans to Developed Countries

Refocus on existing emerging markets, prioritizing technology development for next year

Announced expansion plan to Japan Some time ago, data solutions platform Snapcart decided to refocus on the Indonesian market and a number of countries that it had visited previously, such as the Philippines, Brazil, and Singapore.

To DailySocial, Snapcart CEO Reynazran Royono said demand from developed countries such as Japan, South Korea, and Australia does exist, but Snapcart sees the cost required to acquire users in these countries is quite high compared to developing countries.

"By cost efficiency, we see the current strategy is to focus on developing countries [..]. The expansion that we are doing is quite complex compared to other startups that focus only on Indonesia," said Rey.

Cashier Features

This year Snapcart introduced the Cashier feature within the app. Cashier targets shop or stall owners to quickly and flexibly record and record sales transactions digitally.

"The concept is similar to POS, but what distinguishes Cashier from other POS is that we focus on grocery centric, really just a stall owner," said Rey.

Snapcart does not charge any fees for shop owners who take advantage of this feature. After uploading the data, the shop owner will be able to get a free report about the sales performance, top selling SKU and also if they want to make a product purchase, they can earn list of inventory directly.

"Although we haven't done much marketing activities for Cashier, now many users have started using it. One of the reasons, of course, is that all databases are managed by Snapcart, so shop owners don't have to do that. queue in Their SKUs one by one," said Rey.

For now, Snapcart has no plans to collaborate with QR code-based digital payment services. Based on the company's observations, traffic generated by payments using QR codes in stalls is not yet large enough.

2019 target

Regarding Snapcart's 2019 plans, Rey emphasized that there are two things that are the company's priorities. The first is to develop technology by increasing automation capabilities. Later it is hoped that the ability to dateprocessing could be faster. From what previously took about a week, in the future it is expected to be within 3 days.

The next priority is to prepare the technology to help clients with attribution. Snapcart wants to take advantage of the data it has so that it can be used to help related parties, such as the financial sector, government, to health.

Series B Fund

After pocketing funding Pre Series A and Serie A in 2017, in 2019, Snapcart plans to raise funds for the Series B round. Still in the exploratory stage, Rey is not yet willing to mention which investors will be involved in this funding.

"Plan fundraising of course there is. Our target, if for example it can be done, in 2019 we will do it for Series B funding," Rey concluded.
