Sepulsa "Rebranding", Becomes Part of Parent Company "Alterra"

Also in the process of seeking Series C funding

Sepulsa, an online payment aggregator startup, did rebranding become Alterra, a company holding which will oversee and continue Sepulsa's business, and an incubator for individuals interested in working in the IT industry called Alterra Academy.

Business transformation pulse Being Alterra, it is hoped that this will bring the company to provide more features than just selling credit, to serve a wider market, thereby bringing about more significant changes.

"In general, we will continue to run Sepulsa and Alpha Tech Company independently. Alterra will be a holding company that will continue our great vision of building Indonesia's digital infrastructure," said Alterra CEO and Co-Founder Ananto Wibisono in an official statement.

Sepulsa was founded in 2015 with the main business of selling credit through its website and application. Then, it evolved and had several business lines such as online aggregators (B2B bill payment aggregator) and distribution network.

With direct connections and licenses from all telecommunication providers, Sepulsa is claimed to be able to process more than five million transactions every month and supports various Indonesian technology companies such as Tokopedia, Traveloka, and Lazada.

The company also provides payment services outside of telecommunications, ranging from electricity, PDAM, game vouchers, installments, and finance.

"Our clients consist of e-commerce, marketplaces, travel aggregators, to fintech companies. We have succeeded in proving that payment services, especially credit, are an effective way to get and keep business consumers, as well as to provide more use cases for clients," added Head of Commercial Alterra Muhammad Badaruddin.

Subsidiary under Alterra, Alpha Tech Company (ATA), which will be renamed Alterra Academy, is an incubator for individuals interested in working in the IT industry, regardless of their educational background.

For three months, ATA will provide intensive training, from site creation to UI/UX design. When participants graduate, they can work as engineers in technology companies.

This program is held in Malang free of charge. The first batch started in September 2018 with 650 registrants and 18 selected participants who took part in the training to completion. The second batch has opened mid-December 2018 and training begins next month.

Regarding future business plans, the company was revealed to be seeking series C funding. Apart from recruiting new talents, Alterra internally has a solid team with a total of more than 250 employees operating in Jakarta, Jambi and Malang.

Previously, Alterra had secured series B funding at the beginning of last year with an undisclosed amount from Alpha JWC Ventures as one of the investors who joined the round.

The company is also participating in the InnoHub Incubator program from Bangkok Bank in Thailand. Through this program, participants have the opportunity to collaborate with the Bangkok Bank network and receive funding.
