Search for HoloLens App Ideas, Microsoft Launches "Share Your Idea" Campaign

HoloLens opens up new opportunities for real-world interactions with the virtual world

Microsoft recently announced a partnership with Volvo to provide new experience in buying a car using HoloLens. And recently, Microsoft launched a "Share Your Idea" campaign to the developer community to find the best ideas for HoloLens applications/scenarios.

Share Your Ideas is a website and forum where everyone can discuss and post ideas on what experiences/apps you'd like to have if you own a HoloLens device. This idea will later be seen by others and the community can do it voting to determine their favorite ideas.

At the end of the campaign, the HoloLens team will choose the 3 best ideas which will be actually developed and released to the public.

This is a new step for Microsoft, using the power of the community to determine which features/applications will be developed. And interestingly, when the application/feature is completed, the source code of the application will be handed back to the community.

The main topic of this campaign is the main ability of HoloLens, which is to display Holograms. Holograms are the same objects as in the real world but in HoloLens these objects are created using a combination of light and sound.

For those of you who want to share ideas, pay attention to the HoloLens capabilities below:

  1. World coordinates. Holograms can be placed in static coordinate positions in the real world. We can go around or see the other side of the hologram object. For example, we place a table in the dining room in our HoloLens world, when we are outside the house, we cannot see the table.
  2. Scales. Hologram objects can have the exact same size as real objects and can even be reduced or enlarged.
  3. Interaction.HoloLens uses the eye as one of the input devices to control the device. Combined with gestures and voice commands, holograms can be made very interactive
  4. Spatial Sound. Holograms can attract attention using sound to lead us in a direction
  5. Spatial Mapping. Hololens can identify real-world objects using surface information and the user's surroundings so that objects can be placed on the floor, wall or table.

DailySocial.id loyal readers can participate in this campaign by opening the website page http://hololens.com/shareyouridea. It's definitely an interesting experience if your idea will be implemented by Microsoft, one of the companies giant in the world. Interested?
