Rekosistem Presents Waste Management Solutions for Business and Households

Has obtained initial funding from the Bali Investment Club and established a strategic partnership with Marubeni

Waste is a product of consumption, so it cannot be eliminated from the process of people's lives, it will grow according to the purchasing power and population size. As the country with the 4th most populous population in the world, waste management in this country is considered far from 'optimal'.

Rekosistem was founded in 2018 by Ernest Layman and Joshua Valentino on the basis of concerns about waste management problems in Indonesia. Starting from a small business in the form of an MSME named "Kahiji (Khazanah Hijau Indonesia)", this service has developed into an innovative waste management technology startup.

As the name implies, Rekosystem is taken from two words, namely king-, refers to activities that support sustainability (sustainability) as reuse, reduce, recycle, renewable, as well as all other sustainability principles implemented in their products. Then ecosystem, as the goal of the solution to encourage changes in lifestyle to be environmentally friendly in creating a better environment.

The main products offered by Rekosistem include Pickup Service (Repickup Service) and Garbage Deposit to Waste Station (Redrop Service). Repickup Service includes garbage collection and pick-up services for households or housing, businesses, offices, schools, public facilities, sports facilities, and commercial places.

Meanwhile, Depositing Waste to the Waste Station is an innovation launched as a new standard form of recycling waste collection facilities. The Waste Station Rekosystem with dimensions large enough to accommodate large amounts of recycled waste and encourage people to start the habit of recycling waste by providing reward points.

Operating for both B2B and B2C services, Rekosistem offers pick-up and deposit services for waste as needed. This service focuses on the use of technology in its applications, either through websites for periodic garbage collection from residential areas and commercial places; as well as through mobile app for individual users who independently deposit trash to station Available ecosystem.

To date, the total recycled waste has exceeded 1.000 tons, originating from around 50 corporations and 11 thousand households. Some Rekosystem services are still limited in Jakarta and Surabaya. The target is to expand to 5 cities this year and process 10 times more waste in Indonesia.

The company introduces the system reward points applied for per kilogram of waste deposited. Garbage from various transportation and collection points of the Rekosistem will be sent to the Rekosistem Waste Hub (Material Recovery Facility) to be sorted into more than 50 categories. Each segregated waste will be distributed to Rekosistem recycling partners for further processing according to their respective types.

Rekosistem Co-Founder & CEO Ernest Layman revealed that there are three things that distinguish Rekosistem from players cleantech other. First, from the process side, the company cooperates with players from various lines in the existing waste management circle. Then, the waste received is not only valuable, but also mixed. Finally, he and his team implemented simple educational steps so that they could enter all classes of society.

Ernest who used to be a professional worker in a multinational company and has now changed his profession to become a social entrepreneur said, "Our mission is not only focused on increasing the absorption of recycled waste in Indonesia, but also always introducing the trend of environmentally friendly lifestyles to the community."

Investments for impactful startups

As many companies are starting to move towards impact, as well as investment in this area is increasing. Not long ago, Rekosystem also announced the gain seed round from the Bali Investment Club and the signing of a strategic partnership with a Japanese company, Marubeni, to improve the quality of waste management.

In addition to the Rekosystem, there is also money, a digital service developer that facilitates recycling in Indonesia. This startup is also listed as one of the graduates Google for Startup Accelerator, the first Google accelerator program held in Indonesia.
