Planet Aja Presents a Platform for Buying and Selling Used Motorcycles

Began operation in July 2022; has been present at 35 Planet Ban stores in the Jadetabek area

The name "Planet Ban" may already be familiar to the public. This company has focused on serving the needs of two-wheeled motorized vehicles since 2011. With a total of more than 1000 outlets throughout Indonesia, Planet Ban has transformed into a network spare parts the largest modern motorcycle under the auspices of PT. Surganya Motor Indonesia.

It's not enough to be superior, Planet Ban wants to continue to innovate. Planet Aja is the newest affiliate that provides a platform and service for selling used motorbikes instantly in 1 hour. The motorbike owner only needs to enter the data of the used motorbike he wants to sell to get an estimated selling price and schedule an inspection at the selected Planet Tire shop.

In a short interview with DailySocial.id, Planet Aja CEO Rendy Nasa Patriot revealed that his team had conducted internal research in 2021 and found that the used motorcycle market in Indonesia is predicted to reach more than 3,2 million units, transactions are dominated by consumer-to-consumer (C2C) sales through marketplaces/personal networks.

However, under these conditions, motorcycle sellers are often faced with an inefficient selling process and offers that are less transparent. Therefore, Planet Aja was developed to be a solution for motorbike owners who want to sell their vehicles with a process that is much easier, faster, safer, and offers transparent prices.

Business process

For motorbike owners who want to sell their used motorbikes, they can directly access the site Just Planet to use features price engine, a system that can display the estimated selling price of motorbikes according to brand, model, type, year, and number of kilometers. After that, the seller can immediately visit the selected Planet Tire store location for the inspection process.

Furthermore, Planet Aja will offer motorcycle units owned by consumers to dozens of dealer partners through a special application. The price bidding process from dealer partners can also be monitored on a regular basis real-time. Once a price is agreed upon, the funds will be credited to the seller's account in less than 5 minutes. The whole process is said to only take 1 hour.

Starting operations in July 2022, Planet Aja is available in 35 Planet Ban stores in the Jadetabek area, “For 2023, we will offer trade-in services and increase the coverage of our operational areas. At least we are targeting that this motorbike buying and selling service will be available in 350 Planet Tire stores. Of course, this service expansion must be supported by better website development," said Rendy.

Previously Moladin played in this area, but last year decided pivot to change the business model of the service marketplace for motorbikes to used cars.

Market for buying and selling used motorbikes

For some people, used motorbikes are an attractive option, considering that the prices are cheaper and the condition of the motorbikes is relatively good if you are smart in sorting them out. In addition, Planet Aja projects that the used motorcycle industry and market will continue to grow in the future as more consumers start to transition to electric motorbikes, especially consumers in big cities.

As is known, the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia is growing rapidly. The government has also issued Regulation of the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Number PM 65/2020 concerning the Conversion of Motorbikes with Fuel Motors into Battery-Based Motorcycles regulating the conversion of gasoline motorbikes to electric motor.

One that is still an obstacle is the possible costs incurred for this change, which is a minimum of IDR 15 million per unit. Even so, the Ministry of Industry is said to be pursuing a national production target of two million units of electric motorbikes, according to direct directions from President Jokowi.

Regarding the comparison of buying and selling motorbikes and used cars, according to Planet Aja, there are not many significant differences. Most consumers still make buying and selling transactions through the marketplace, personal network, or an intermediary.

"However, one thing we have observed, in the motorbike buying and selling market, there are not many companies that offer the convenience of fast transactions with professional assistance, as car owners do on other similar platforms," concluded Rendy.

In Indonesia alone, apart from Planet, there are not many platforms that focus on buying and selling used motorbikes. Most platforms provide used car buying and selling services such as Carmudi. In addition there is also Car which serves the buying and selling of used motorbikes through Jualo.
