Overwatch and Overwatch 2 Are the Same Game, With Pure Differences in PvE Aspects
Both clients will be unified to avoid the risk of fragmentation from a competitive point of view
As an Overwatch player, I was excited for a moment when I heard the announcement Overwatch 2 recently. For a moment because after listening to the explanation, Overwatch 2 was more impressed as a expansion rather than a sequel.
What's really new in Overwatch 2 is the mode story missions which can be played alone or with three other players (co-op). The rest, Overwatch 2 also presents engine new, new PvP mode and a number of map along with hero new. Except story missions, this other feature apparently will also penetrate the first Overwatch.
Based on Kotaku's interview with Overwatch team leader, Jeff Kaplan, Blizzard does have a long-term plan to unite Overwatch 1 and Overwatch 2. Maybe not immediately when Overwatch 2 launches, but Jeff said that later game client They will merge Overwatch 1 and Overwatch 2 into one.
The goal is to avoid the risk of fragmentation, ensuring that no player benefits from playing using client Overwatch 2 equipped engine new. Simply put, Overwatch 1 and Overwatch 2 will be game the exact same thing for PvP affairs.
The case is different for PvE matters. If you want to try story missions and explore the narrative of the Overwatch world in full, then you must buy Overwatch 2. But on the contrary if what you are looking for is killing each other player, Overwatch 1 owners do not need to provide additional funds to buy Overwatch 2.
In addition to providing justice for players, the decision to unite Overwatch 1 and Overwatch 2 can also make the task easier developer alone. Instead of having to take care of two game different, obviously it's more practical to take care of one game only, with the difference only in the PvE content earlier.
