Not Just an Annual Event, NextICorn Inaugurated as a Foundation

The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) and the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) on Friday (05/4) signed the Foundation Deed NextICorn. The goal is to ensure the continuity of the Next Indonesia Unicorn program which has previously been implemented--in the form of an integrated event that connects prospective startups unicorn with potential investors.

This foundation model was chosen by the government to be more involved in facilitating the development of the digital ecosystem. The signing of the foundation deed was carried out directly by the Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara and the Head of BKPM Thomas Lembong, witnessed by Nexticorn members, including Lis Sutjiati, Rambun Tjajo, Donald Wirahardja, David Rimbo, Rudy Ramawy, and Italo Gani.

The main vision of the NextICorn Foundation is to institutionalize the continuity of cooperation between the government and the ecosystem represented by figures who have given color to the face of the digital economy in Indonesia through NextICorn's programs so far. Including para founder unicorn Indonesia, namely William Tanuwijaya, Nadiem Makarim, and Achmad Zaky.

"It's not only oriented to the interests and short-term benefits of each. The step to establish a foundation is part of a sustainable long-term ecosystem development process so that the digital economy industry can develop faster and better," said Rudiantara.

Facilities provided by the Foundation NextICorn not only in terms of access to investors, but also in opening up opportunities for funding, technology, marketing, and business model support. Para board member NextICorn agrees that the establishment of a foundation is the right step to manage and carry out other activities to facilitate the acceleration of the birth of a new Indonesian unicorn.

"This foundation is a vehicle for startups to grow and minimize the effects of this phenomenon 'bubble burst'. BKPM will actively participate, not only being a foundation coach, but also helping in terms of sponsorship as well as other supports," said Thomas Lembong.
