Multi-Platform Application Development Strategy

Multi-Platform Application Development through Tizen Operating System

In the development of the technology industry, so many use of mobile-based devices such as mobile smartphone, tablets up to wearable devices as SmartWatch. We should not forget that it is the operating system that runs various devices so it is an important aspect of a device.

For the ranks of popular names, we know the operating system Android, iOS or Windows Phone. It turns out that not only the three operating systems are popular and have the potential to be developed. One of the operating systems that are currently on the rise is the Tizen operating system.

Tizen is an open operating system (open source) for operating systems based on modified Linux kernel and WebKit Runtime that can run on devices smartphones, wearables, or compliance devices.

Tizen Application Development

Tizen application development offers quite a few target equipment platforms. Tizen offers two development options, namely through native application and web application.

In native development, Tizen applies the C/C++ programming language to enable an application to have reliable performance because it communicates directly within the operating system circle. As for web developers, options web application can be chosen because Tizen has one of the advantages of having the best HTML5 browser support in its class. As is known HTML5 is also supported by other mobile platforms such as Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry OS, and FireOS.

Tizen's coverage is very broad because developer can create applications that are connected between all smart devices as wearables, consumer electronics (TV, gaming consoles, DVRs etc.), mobile devicesand IoT appliances.

The Tizen operating system has now entered the fourth generation which is constantly changing. The most noticeable change from Tizen 4.0 is the optimization that will make it easier for IoT developers in making applications quickly, so that they are no longer limited to the realm of smartphones and television. Tizen 4.0 has been extended to Tizen RT (Real-Time) to engage high-end products such as televisions and mobile devices and products Low-end such as thermostats, scales, light bulbs and so on.

Tizen also collaborates with Microsoft so that developers can now more easily develop Tizen applications with popular programming languages. In particular, the Microsoft .NET framework and Xamarin UI have been introduced by Tizen so that C#-based applications can be developed in the Visual Studio environment to increase productivity.

Open Operating System and Multi-Platform Devices

Tizen is an operating system that open source, meaning that user or user can get source code Tizen OS to be developed personally by the owner smartphone or device other. Indirectly, Tizen provides an opportunity developer to be creative in making applications on the Tizen OS and openly so that many creative and innovative applications are present on the Tizen OS.

This Tizen operating system provides an opportunity for developers to learn more about how to develop software on this OS. The large presence of device and electronic users with the Samsung brand is a promising market for developers to try to learn more about Tizen.

Tizen is designed as an operating system that can support many devices such as smartphones, In-Vehicle Infotainment, as well as some Samsung electronic products. Application development on Tizen OS is an effective step for developers because one application can be applied to many platform different. The current trend is towards the concept of IoT (Internet of Things) which will connect several device to be controlled by one device.

Realizing the great potential in developing Tizen-based applications, Samsung held an application development competition and game for platform Tizen in Indonesia at the same time encourages and invites developer to deliver Tizen-based application innovations.

Reflecting on the success of Indonesia Next App 3.0 (INA 3.0) in 2016, Samsung provides challenges to IT developers and developers startup to create Tizen-based innovations such as smartphones, wearable devices and virtual reality devices. From INA 3.0 collected 196 applications for Tizen Smartphone Apps, 53 apps for wearables/gear apps and 33 apps for gear VR content.

The number of applications submitted to INA 3.0 shows the great interest and enthusiasm of the developers and developers startup local in creating the Tizen-based application. Therefore, in 2017, Samsung will again hold the fourth series of Indonesia Next App, INA 4.0, which again challenges local IT developers and startups to innovate based on Tizen. The difference is, at this event, INA 4.0 consists of four categories, namely: smartphones, wearable devices, virtual reality devices, and Samsung SDK.

It is hoped that through the INA 4.0 event, new Tizen-based innovations will be born. The presence of Tizen 4.0 will make it easier for IT developers in making applications, especially in the IoT (IOT) realmInternet of Things) which is one of the missions of Samsung.

This is a golden opportunity for local innovators in particular to start building an application ecosystem on this growing platform. The multi-platform capabilities offered in development will also make it easier for developers to adapt more quickly with the availability of development tools that are also very diverse.
