Get to know the proof of concept, and the steps for making it that startups must pay attention to

Proof of Concept, one of the programs that startup businesses must choose to avoid product failure.

With the development of technology, business startup also increasing. This gives rise to various effects, one of which is the intense product competition. In the business world startup, they will compete to make sophisticated technology. But to form a technology there will always be risks. To minimize the risk you should do Proof of Concept (POC) first.

What is POC?

proof of concept (POC) is a program to validate concepts or ideas in terms of functional, application, technical or method of a software before entering the development stage. POC is carried out to ensure the technology can run according to user expectations. Usually POC is also offered by the technology provider.

The application of this validity test is very important to be applied by all startup, because through this process, you can see if your product or software can run and sell well, this is to minimize failure. One of the organizers of the POC program is Amazon Web Services (AWS), as for them, the program is considered more pocket-friendly and low risk for those of you who want to benefit cloud migration.

Apart from being used in business startup, proof of content also often used in other fields such as business development, project management, IT, manufacturing, security cyber, and the health sector.

POC, Prototype and MVP are different processes

POC it is often equated with prototype, but these two strategies are different. As mentioned earlier, when the POC tests the validity of the idea or concept of the software. Whereas, prototype  done after the POC, which is to test the design, layout, navigation, and visualization of how a product will actually function.

So, if a product has received a proper certificate from proof of concept, will usually be forwarded to stage prototypes.

Unlike the two stages above, MVP or minimum viable product will usually be in the form of a product or application that can be used by a limited number of users. However, MVP is also still in simple features or general features, MVP is used to earn money feedback from users regarding product functionality.

Of the three developments, you can choose to use POC, prototypes, or MVP, all three have different technicalities. However, if you have just thought of a concept or idea, it is better to choose to use a POC program so that you know whether the idea can be executed or not.

Four Things to Pay Attention to When Using the POC Program

If you want to use the program proof of concept, consider the following four steps so that the product or application can meet expectations.

1. Understand user needs

Before thinking about what application plans you will make, first determine what needs and solutions your users or customers need, so that later you can create the appropriate application. This process can be done through market research.

2. Estimate the duration proof of concept

Once you know what solution the user needs, you can immediately execute the idea with a POC, but you need to estimate how long it will take you, so that everything can be completed according to the plan you made. This is also to avoid follow-ups from your competitors.

3. Define the scope proof of concept

You need to determine what concepts to do with proof of concept, by determining the scope also the results of the POC project will be more accurate and easier to evaluate if there are inaccuracies.

4. Choosing the right POC organizer

Making a business is certainly not a game. So, you don't have to be smart in choosing which party will develop the POC from the concept of the application you are going to run. We recommend that you look for a POC development company that already has previous skills.

Once you know what POC is as well as several things that must be considered from the program, then your application or product can avoid fatal failures if you choose to implement POC.
