Measuring Women's Potential and Ability to Adopt Technology

Based on a survey conducted by Accenture, three key accelerators for improving women's careers in the digital age

From research conducted by Accenture with Femina, it is stated that currently around 73% of women in Indonesia have left the conventional way of working by utilizing technology. The research was conducted in the Greater Jakarta area for women who work in the media, e-commerce, telecommunications, PR, and social media industries. geoscience technology, with two age groups, namely group 1 (age 20-30 years) and group 2 (age 30-40 years). The survey was conducted on women and men in 29 countries with a total of 900 respondents in each country, including Indonesia.

The rise of social media to e-commerce services that allow women to start their own businesses relying solely on technology. 80% of women in Indonesia then choose to work as entrepreneurs or freelancers.

Country Manager for Accenture Indonesia, Neneng Goenadi, revealed that the results of the survey can be seen as to the development and knowledge of Indonesian women in terms of adopting technology.

“Female employees are better able to take advantage of useful opportunities to improve their careers in the digital era. In addition, female employees are considered more capable of using advances in digital technology for work multi tasking. "

Lack of ambition and no long term plans

An interesting thing that is also mentioned in the survey is that young women, in this case millennials, are considered less intelligent to determine the best education choices for the future with a percentage of 27%. The thing that distinguishes the younger generation of men is 40%.

Another thing to note is that most young female workers usually have mentors compared to male colleagues in the office.

“Women are also considered not as ambitious as male employees in achieving senior leadership positions. Women show a greater dependence on digital technology for them to use in their personal lives and to advance their careers,” said Neneng.

In utilizing digital technology, 71% of Indonesian women use it to seek information about careers or new opportunities. In addition, technology is also often used by Indonesian women for collaborative work using digital devices (skype calls and others) carried out by 46% of women in Indonesia.

Three key accelerators to boost your career

In the presentation, Accenture revealed three key accelerators to help women improve their careers. Among them are (a) by mastering technology, namely the extent to which they are able to use digital technology to connect with other parties, study and work. Next is (b) career strategy, the need for women to have aspirations and make the right choices, and of course manage careers more proactively.

The last is (c) the opportunity to acquire greater technology and stronger digital capabilities in order to be able to compete with men.
