MDI-Telkom Business Match Working 2022, Bridge 49 Investors With 100+ Indonesian Startups

This event is part of the B20 agenda which aims to encourage innovation and the development of the startup ecosystem in Indonesia

MDI Ventures together with Telkom Indonesia collaborated to bring together more than 100 early-stage startups (early stage) and development stage (growth stage) in Indonesia with 49 investors through the "MDI-Telkom Business Match Working 2022" event. This is a virtual event titled business matching, with the aim of opening collaboration opportunities for sustainable synergies. 

This event is also part of the B20 Indonesia program with the main event being the B20 Indonesia Summit which will be held on 13-14 November 2022 in Bali. B20 alone is one of the official dialogue forums for the global business community within the framework of the Indonesian G20 Presidency led by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

In his speech, M. Fajrin Rasyid as B20 Digitalization Task Force Deputy Chair stated, this initiative is in line with B20's mission of bridging the startup ecosystem with investors in various industries to encourage digital economic growth and innovation in Indonesia. 

As is known, currently the world economy is driven by digital technology. The COVID-19 pandemic is accelerating the growth of the digital economy. Data for 2021, digital economy collaboration has contributed significantly to Indonesia's GDP, around 3% or as much as US$70 billion.

Of course, a digital strategy is needed to develop and create a sustainable digital ecosystem to boost the productivity of the Indonesian people. 

Fajrin added that the B20 Digitalization Task Force formulated policy recommendations to address the digital divide, especially in the digital economy. 

The B20 Digitalization Task Force, said Fajrin, wants to ensure that digitalization can drive future growth, as well as ensure that it can bridge the digital divide, which ultimately results in an inclusive digital transformation.

"The B20 Digitalization Task Force encourages universal connectivity and access in the digital economy, brings breakthroughs for a sustainable and resilient digital economy through digital infrastructure and ensures a digital-ready mindset for individuals and MSMEs," said Fajrin.

Through this activity, it is hoped that it will be able to open up opportunities for Indonesia's productive generation to grow and gain inclusive rights in the health, energy, smart society, financial inclusivity, and supply chain sectors, which in turn will create economic growth. 

CEO of MDI Ventures Donald Wihardja added that his party consistently continues to seek and monitor the best startups in the region while thoroughly exploring existing opportunities and ensuring that no innovators and potential are left behind.

Involve over 100 early-stage startups and grow

A total of 115 startups (61 early-stage startups and 54 developing-stage startups) have joined and have been curated from various backgrounds and industries, from early stages to growth stages. They come from category edtech, fintech, proptech, artificial intelligence, agritech, and many more. In this activity, they do 1-on-1 matchmaking pitching within 12 hours, thatexplained and shared their innovations and business models to the 49 investors who attended this event.

"We hope today's event will help startups find the right partners and investors to help develop their business to the next level," added M. Fajrin Rasyid. 

According to Fajrin, without collaboration, innovation is just an idea that never works. For this reason, it is necessary in addition to connecting startup actors with venture capital, the government also needs to join hands with investors, companies, and other visionary institutions and individuals.

Through the assistance of SOEs, especially Telkom, investors and startups will have a platform and ecosystem to integrate public and private sector initiatives related to Indonesia's economic transformation that is inclusive and has a broad impact on society.
