Lionsgate Play Collaborates with Migo to Touch the Middle-Lower User Segment

Migo technology allows users with limited internet quota to download movies via local networks spread across various locations

Lionsgate Play's OTT platform joins as a new partner leveraging Migo's digital content distribution network. Lionsgate wants to reach new users outside the main target market, which has been limited in accessing entertainment content. Besides Lionsgate, previously Migo has partnered with other OTT providers such as Sushiroll, Genflix, GoPlay, and Vision+.

“I was in the telco industry, pay TV, there is something in common that the telco and the world entertainment it is everyone's need. I've seen this innovation long ago. Innovation that given by Migo this has met the need mass market, who wants to find entertainment but it doesn't waste data," said Lionsgate Play Indonesia Country Head Guntur Siboro, Thursday (28/7).

He continues, since Lionsgate Play present in Indonesia in the past year, it has partnered with various provider telcos and cable TV, such as Telkomsel, First Media, and Indihome. However, from the partnership, no one has reached out yet mass market alias under the lowest economic pyramid. The solution is presented by Migo, through cloud (Migo Download Station/MDS) available at retail locations.

Together with Migo, the two companies will curate film content that will be distributed according to the target user. However, Guntur ensured that Hollywood content with the horror and comedy genres occupies the highest position as the content most watched by Migo users in the past year.

“Actually there is no limit [which content is provided from Lionsgate Play], but because Migo needs to be curated which one is suitable [for Migo users] because it is different if it is broadcast on our own platform. So this curation looks at the tastes of the audience as well.”

So far, Indonesian people tend to access digital content through e-mail smartphone, but there are still many who have limited network and internet quota. This solution is offered by Migo and is seen by Lionsgate Play as an opportunity to reach more layers of society in Indonesia to enjoy digital entertainment content without having to subscribe.

This condition seems to justify that content providers need a cheap Migo distribution network to cover a wider market. The increase in the number of Migo users is claimed to have reached more than 80% in the past year, helping to convince his party to synergize with Migo Indonesia.

Network expansion

Separately, to DailySocial.id, President Director of Migo Indonesia Dan Connor said that his party is targeting to have 10 thousand networks spread across Java. After that, the company will expand beyond Java by targeting cities in Sumatra and Sulawesi.

“Now there are 1.400 networks spread across West Java, such as Cirebon, Indramayu, Serang. But next year I want to go to Sumatra and Sulawesi.”

In network expansion, continued Connor, his party does not see having to go to a second or third tier city, because it is only a matter of location. The company's main concern is that this point is not passed by people of the upper class economy, so they don't see if the city is a metropolitan city or not. Even in Jakarta, there are still middle to lower groups of people.

"So the place we chose as a warung with a population filled by middle to lower class economic people"

The name Warung Migo is actually a small business place, whether it is a grocery shop, photo coffee shop, coffee shop, offices, even train stations, which can be placed cloud local MDS and selling watch packages. Connor said, of the 1.400 available networks, around 80% are in the form of small businesses.

At the network point, it provides a Wi-Fi network that can be connected to the device to download unlimited movie content. Every movie available on Migo takes less than 60 seconds to download. The content can be enjoyed without buffering, eat internet quota, and ads. Users can choose a package that costs Rp. 3 thousand for a day and the most expensive is Rp. 120 thousand for one year. Other options range from seven days, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months.

In addition to adding partnerships with small business owners, Migo is also releasing new innovations for transfer films online peer-to-peer (P2P). This feature is like the Share It application which allows users to share fillet without consuming the internet network.

Connor explained, fillet movies that are shared to other devices are already licensed with a guarantee that there are no viruses, damage (corrupt), etc. As per-file transfer through ShareIt, users can share the movie files they have downloaded to their friends who are not yet Migo users.

This innovation in addition to driving new user acquisition strategies, also allows smartphone devices used by Migo users to become new MDS network points, because they share filletit to other users. The response received from users, he continued, has been overwhelmingly positive.

“There are our users who visit Jakarta but live in Tegal. He became a Migo user and downloaded a lot of movies from his cellphone. Once home, he shared the films with his family. Finally he contacted our CS toinstall- MDS so that they can share with others," he concluded.

For the record, MNC Vision Networks, owner of OTT Vision+, is among Migo's investors who invested $40 million in investment. in September 2021.
