Learn to Become a Startup Leader from Three World-Class Successful CEOs

Starting from focusing on other supporting aspects and not always talking about income

Currently, more and more young CEOs are emerging offering technology-based products and services. Not only smart in managing startups, these young CEOs are also known for their creativity and shown commitment to running a business successfully.

Article The following will explore the key to the success of three young CEOs who have spawned world-class companies such as Facebook, Google and Twitter, they are Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Page and Jack Dorsey.

Focus [not] on revenue

Of course, for investors, employees and media, information about income is something that must be shared and known. In this case, the three young CEOs turned out to have different approaches, namely they didn't really like to talk about revenue or income. Their main focus is how the performance of the company can grow quickly, by processing and developing products and of course the target market.

Although revenue is important for a company, focusing on products and target markets is a powerful enough strategy to be a winner in the right market.

Three things the three CEOs actually did include:

  • Creating an outline for market share, especially what percentage of the target customers as well as the existing research and data related to the use of the services that will be offered later.
  • Encouraging team members internally to be able to see the extent of the needs of the target user, and of course by presenting products that are different from other competitors in order to provide the best experience for users.
  • Target the end goal based on user, marketing or customer segmentation, and not focus on revenue or how much money is coming in.

The conclusion is, focusing on income is fine, but if it is not accompanied by goals, strategies, customers, products and employees, it will be difficult to get income. If from the start the company only thinks about revenue and forgets about other important aspects, the income that sustainable and produce a useful product, will be difficult to realize.

The following is goals or the ultimate goal of three successful CEOs:

“These ads are terrible and not relevant at all. Make them better.” Larry Page, 2006. “Our company goal is to get to 1 billion monthly active users.” Mark Zuckerberg, 2011. “Every seller has two fundamental needs — capital and customers. How can we help them with either of these?” Jack Dorsey, 2013.

In the end, for those of you aspiring CEOs who are building a business, it's better not to focus on revenue publicly or internally. Of course, it will not be easy, but with support from other aspects, it is certain that income will come at the right time. There will be many related parties who demand that you as CEO think more about revenue, so stay consistent with the original plan and continue to encourage your team members to persist and implement a clear strategy, while providing the best service for customers.
