Uber Service is Officially Coming to Jakarta Today

Smartphone-based private car rental service Uber officially launched today. Uber itself has actually started operating in the capital since early June. For the past two months, the company has focused on increasing the number of vehicles and drivers by collaborating with various car rental companies and knowing patterns, market demand, and Jakarta's public acceptance. For now, this service is still very limited because it is concentrated around the Sudirman CBD area.

For those who are still curious about Uber's services, the company can be categorized as an alternative taxi service provider, despite the fact that Uber does not own a vehicle at all and the drivers also do not work for Uber. Drivers work and are paid by car rental companies that are Uber partners. Uber's role is to find them passengers and make sure their rides are safe, comfortable and classy. The payment method for Uber services is via credit card and does not serve cash payments.

Although Uber initially only had less than 15 cars when it started its business in Jakarta, now the company has managed to provide more than 50 cars and is working to continue to add more to accommodate more passengers. This expansion is related to Uber's success in establishing partnerships with various car rental companies that have been trusted by many companies that need rental cars for a long period of time.

While in other cities (in the world) Uber provides more than one service category, in Jakarta there is currently only one category, namely Uber, which provides a wide variety of vehicles, ranging from the old Hyundai Sonata which needs a lot of repairs to the Mercedes Benz S Class which needs a lot of repairs. the latest, don't miss the super large Toyota Alphard. The thing to note is that all these vehicles use black plates, not yellow plates which are usually used by public transportation, so both drivers and passengers must pay attention to the -in-1 regulations that apply in several areas in Jakarta.

In terms of tariffs, Uber's service is equivalent to the service fare of Blue Bird Group taxis and cheaper than the premium rates for Silver Bird or Tiara Express services. The minimum tariff charged by Uber, which is IDR 30.000, is also cheaper than the minimum tariff for the Blue Bird call service.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the company in the 130 cities where it operates, but so far Uber has not received any resistance or criticism from local taxi service providers, regulators, or the government in Indonesia.

The lack of public attention to Uber services may be due to the fact that people have been busy with various news regarding the presidential election and the Constitutional Court trial since last May. This allows Uber to operate without being detected by the wider community. In fact there has been little local media coverage of the company, although it looks like that will soon change after today's launch.

Uber mobile app is available for platforms iOSAndroidand Windows Phone.
