Populix Survey: JNT and JNE Become the Logistics of Choice for Generation Z and Millennials

The report “Indonesia Outlook on the Logistic Delivery Services” highlights the behavior of freight forwarders

One of the industries that has received good fortune as a result of digitalization is the logistics industry. This is not surprising, because this industry is an important factor in the process of distributing goods from sellers to buyers across Indonesia.

Recently Populix released a report entitledIndonesia Outlook on the Logistics Delivery Services” which highlights shipping behavior for personal and shopping deliveries online in Indonesia.

In its report, Populix found some interesting data related to people's preferences as buyers for logistics brands in Indonesia.

This research shows that delivery services have a very high usage rate among Indonesians, especially among Generation Z and Millennials, especially for personal delivery of goods and online shopping.

Of the Generation Z participants, 88% of respondents stated that they use delivery services for online purchases, while another 12% use these services for personal needs. Meanwhile, in the Millennial generation, the majority of 76% of respondents also use delivery services to shop online.

Respondents' preferences in online shopping for goods delivery show that Generation Z uses J&T Express a lot (58%), followed by Shopee Express (32%), JNE (27%), SiCepat (23%), Gosend (7%), GrabExpress (4%), Ninja Express (4%), Pos Indonesia (3%), TIKI (2%), Wahana (1%), Paxel (1%), Indah Logistik (0%), Shipper (0%) , and Lalamove (0%).

The Millennial generation also shows that J&T Express (55%) is the delivery service most often used for shopping online, then JNE (34%), Shopee Express (18%), SiCepat (17%), Gosend (16%), GrabExpress (8%), Pos Indonesia (7%), TIKI (6%), Wahana (6%), Ninja Express (3%), Indah Logistik (3%), Paxel (2%), Shipper (1%) , Lalamove (0%).

"Our research presents the view that the majority of Indonesian people, especially Gen Z and Millennials, use goods delivery services to shop online. Delivery speed, delivery monitoring real-time, a wide range of delivery areas, additional shipping services, the location of many shipping agents and shipping for various types of goods are some of the aspects that are considered by the Indonesian people in choosing a shipping service. This can be used as a reference for logistics companies and delivery service providers to maximize their operations to meet delivery needs," said Timothy Astandu, Co-Founder and CEO of Populix.

In addition, the majority of respondents use shipping insurance (66%), with the reason of protecting goods from loss or damage (87%), ensuring that unwanted things will not happen (59%), for valuable goods (48%), ensuring goods delivered safe (35%). When viewed from customer satisfaction from brand delivery, for personal delivery the average mention is satisfied with the services provided with the highest level of satisfaction from Gojek and Shippers. For shopping delivery online the average respondent is also satisfied with the services provided by brand.

The majority of respondents choose shipping brands for personal delivery because of the speed of delivery. However, when it comes to online shopping delivery, the majority of respondents have two main reasons for choosing a brand, namely the advantage of free shipping and fast delivery.
