Increase the Use of Cloud Computing in Business, Google Holds the First Cloud Summit in Indonesia

Recognizing the growing importance of cloud computing technology in Indonesia for businesses, Google Indonesia held its first Cloud Summit in Indonesia. To the media, Managing Director of APAC Google Cloud, Rick Harshman, revealed that the company's high interest in using Google Cloud at this time is an achievement in itself that has been achieved by Google Indonesia.

"It is undeniable that the presence of Google Indonesia with its various services and approaches to businesses, communities and the Indonesian government is one of the reasons why Indonesia is a top 5 country for Google Cloud users globally."

On this occasion Google brought together more than 1800 executives, partner customers, developer, CTOs and Googlers engineer to discuss the future of cloud computing technology.

Utilization of Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

Previous service Google Cloud Platforms (GCP) for the Asian region is only located in Taiwan, this distance makes it difficult for businesses in Indonesia to work faster. For the past 14 months Google Cloud has been trying to "outsmart" it and build a service Google Cloud Platform in Singapore, Google Cloud also gets feedback which is quite positive from clients in Indonesia regarding the new region.

Asked whether the service will be Google Cloud Platform will be present in Indonesia, according to Rick Harshman, the opportunity is wide open, seeing the potential and demand which is quite large from the business community in Indonesia.

"So far, we've had feedback positive not only from startups but also from conventional companies that use Google Cloud services. Whether in the future a data center network will be built in Indonesia, we'll see what happens next," said Rick.

In total there are 6 regions in Asia, the newest location will be in Hong Kong.

Building relationships with the developer community to training

To ensure the relevant parties clearly understand the concept and the right way to do it scale up using Google Cloud, activities such as training, special classes are often held by Google Cloud. Not only in Jakarta, this activity is also expanded in other big cities in Indonesia.

"Currently there are more than 70 services that businesses can use toleverage and scale up their business utilizes Google Cloud. To make it easier for our clients to step into the process, we at Google Cloud always guide and provide relevant information for them," said Rick.

In Indonesia, the service most used by businesses is G Suite by Google Cloud. Some of the Google Cloud clients include Go-Jek, Tokopedia, KMK, and BBM.

On this occasion, the Head of Google Cloud Southeast Asia, Tim Synan, presented the next plan for Google Cloud for Indonesia.

"Currently we are focusing on three important points, namely building infrastructure, recruiting local talent and improving the ecosystem," said Tim.

Build fiber optic network "Indigo"

To support its business development, Google Cloud is currently building a fiber optic network connecting Singapore-Indonesia-Australia. The submarine cable system built by Google with AARNet, Indosat Ooredoo, SingTel, SubPartners, and Telstra is called Indigo. Alcatel Submarine Networks acts as an infrastructure contractor targeted for completion in mid-2019.

The network that is connected through the international sea area will serve Google data traffic between Australia and Asia by connecting Perth, Sydney, and Singapore and branching out to Jakarta. The length of the Indigo fiber optic cable network is estimated to reach 9 thousand kilometers with a theoretical capacity of 18 terabytes per second.

"It is hoped that this project can improve regional infrastructure in Asia, especially Indonesia," said Tim.
