Inaugurating Its Presence in Jakarta, WeWork Builds Two Coworking Spaces

Co-working space WeWork, which currently has 242 locations, 71 cities and 21 countries around the world, is specifically preparing a $500 million investment for its expansion in Southeast Asia and Korea.

Especially for Indonesia, WeWork immediately built two co-working space which is located in the Revenue Tower in the SCBD area and Sinarmas MSIG Tower. WeWork Southeast Asia Managing Director Turochas "T" Fuad said that at this time, WeWork had only visited Jakarta, and there were no plans to establish co-working space outside Jakarta. It is planned that WeWork will start operating consecutively in the third quarter of 2018.

"With our technology and service options, we are optimistic that we can provide a complete workplace for startups to enterprise."

Turochas who also have co-working space named Spacemob, a Singapore-based startup, was acquired by WeWork last August 2017. It is not stated how much this acquisition will cost. Asked whether there were collaborations, synergies or changing the name of Spacemob to WeWork, Turochas emphasized that there were no changes after the acquisition.

"There is no plan for synergies between Wework and Spacemob. Each of them runs independently, although at this time Spacemob has been acquired by Wework," said Turochas.

More advantages of WeWork

Prioritizing collaboration and interaction for members, WeWork's distinctive approach to community management will also be applied in Jakarta. WeWork provides a Member Network App to collaborate with one another virtually where WeWork also integrates with design, technology and community.

This feature can also encourage an inclusive member experience added by WeWork's global network for companies looking to expand into Indonesia.

Claiming not to want to compete with players co-working space Local people, Turochas said, with experience and branches spread across various countries, it is hoped that WeWork can be an advantage. Later, WeWork members in Indonesia will be able to place orders while in the country where WeWork is located. These advantages are claimed to be more advantages for all WeWork members.

"We have hired local employees who will later manage WeWork in Indonesia," said Turochas.

There are already startups to corporations that will occupy co-working space WeWork. Among them are Bizzy, Chope, DataOn, PolicyPal, Rekanext, StashAway, and Wantedly.

Asked whether there is a special agreement with Sinarmas, Turochas mentioned that so far Sinarmas has only been landlord and partners. Although there is one startup funded by Sinarmas, namely Bizzy, who will occupy one of the WeWork rooms in the Sinarmas building.

"Our relationship with Sinarmas is only as a partner. Later WeWork will share revenue with Sinarmas who serves as the owner of the building," said Turochas.
