Restart Laptop

If you experience a keyboard that won't work, you can fix it yourself in a simple way. All you have to do is restart your laptop.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Make sure you have closed all the applications you used before. If so, click the Windows logo.
  2. Click the shut down logo in the lower right corner, then select Restart.

Keyboard Drivers

If you experience a keyboard problem that cannot be used, you can fix it by updating the keyboard driver which may still be on an older version.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Open Device Manager in Windows Menu.
  2. Here you will find various drivers, look for the keyboard driver then right click.
  3. Click Update Driver, then you will be directed to update the keyboard driver to the latest version.

Clean Keyboard

Most keyboards are made of plastic and have small gaps between each key. This gap can become clogged with dust, which can make it difficult for you to type because it's obstructed.

To clean it, use a tissue or cotton dipped in alcohol and then rub it on the keyboard. Previously, you could blow out the dust that had accumulated on the keyboard first.

System Restore

System Restore can restore your laptop's hardware and software settings back to a previous point in time, before you started having problems with your keyboard.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Find and click Recovery Drive in the Windows Menu.
  2. Then you will be directed to restore the settings as before.

Check the NumLock Function

When you press the NumLock key, the home button will be disabled so you can use the number pad as a calculator. You can press it again to turn on the keyboard's normal features.

If the keyboard isn't working, try pressing the NumLock key a few times to see if that fixes it.
