6 Ways to Fix Corrupt Files, Fast, Easy and Effective

Check out the following article to find out how to fix corrupted files on your computer or laptop device.

File corrupt is an error message that appears when you try to open a document, it means the file cannot be read or opened. This most often happens when you try to open a Word document on your computer or laptop, but it can happen with other document types as well.

There are several reasons for the breakdown:

  • Document: When there's a problem with the document itself, like if someone changed something in the middle of the file or saved it incorrectly.
  • Hardware: If your hard drive is not working properly or has been corrupted by something like a virus, it can cause a file corrupt error in a Word document.
  • Software: Sometimes software gets corrupted due to updates or other issues, which means that the device can no longer read files properly.

How to Fix Corrupted Files

This of course will cause us difficulties, especially if we are in a hurry to open the document, or if the document is very important so it cannot be damaged.

However, you can solve this problem just by sitting at home. Here's how to fix corrupted files:

Via Command Prompt

Command Prompt is a program that has many useful features. You can use it to repair corrupted files, recover deleted files, and even format your hard drive.

  1. Cari Command Prompt in Windows Menu.
  2. Right click then select Run as Administrator.
  3. Wait until the corrupted file scan is complete, do not close this scan.
  4. Usually, a pop-up will appear "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them” which indicates that there is a corrupted file on the device.
  5. Close Command Prompt, then enter Safe Mode.
  6. After entering Safe Mode, reopen Command Prompt and enter the command sfc / scannow.

Perform Disk Check

You can perform a disk check on your hard drive. This check will help you fix any errors that might be causing the problem before trying to open the file again.

  1. Search and open File Explorer in Windows Menu.
  2. Pilih this PC, then right-click. After that select Properties > Tools.
  3. Click Check > ScanDrive > Home.

Changing File Formats

When you try to open a corrupted file, you need to find a way to repair the file. One way to do this is to change the file format. This can be done very easily.

You can replace files that were previously in docs format to PDF, and vice versa. Try to see if after changing, the file will open again.

Through Other Applications

When you try to open a corrupted file, your device will try to open it with an application that is not compatible with the file. You can fix this by changing the app your device uses to open files.

Open Settings then select Apps & features. Then look for applications that can open this file. You can try to open all of them to see if the file can open or not.

Using Repair Files

You can use File Repair to recover files that have been accidentally deleted or damaged by viruses or software glitches. So, this application can help you reopen corrupted files.

File Repair will let you know if there's anything else you need to do before recovering files so you never lose them again.

Via FileBox

If you try to open a file and get an error message that says "File Corrupt", it doesn't mean the file is actually corrupt. It just means Windows thinks it's broken.

It could be that the file isn't damaged at all and just needs to be repaired. And you can fix them with FileBox, a free program from Microsoft that helps you fix files without any technical knowledge.

This is an explanation of how to fix corrupted files on the device, I hope this is useful.
