HappyFresh Grocery Delivery Service Opens in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta

In Jakarta, the first areas covered are South Jakarta and Central Jakarta. HappyFresh itself intends to expand its service coverage to the West Jakarta and Tangerang areas this weekend.

The service provided by Happy Fresh allows you to order groceries through the mobile application and wait for your order to be delivered to your home without the need to queue at the cashier or get stuck in traffic. One of the Co-Founders of Koprol, Fajar Budiprasetyo, became the Co-Founder and CTO of Happy Fresh. The startup, which was founded in October last year, has sent invitations to a number of consumers to try the app iOS and Android to try the app.

To finance its operational activities, HappyFresh has secured Series A funding of single digit million US dollars from a number of local and international VCs as well as several other investors. Tim Marbach from Asia Venture Group entered as Executive Chairman, while Stefan Jung from Monk's Hill Ventures became Advisor.

HappyFresh CEO Markus Bihler said, “We want to eat all the time. But we also need to know what is contained in the food we eat, we also want to prepare food at home for our family and friends. Therefore, grocery delivery services are certainly the best solution for you.”

There are two different teams involved in every transaction at HappyFresh. The first team consists of professional personal shoppers who are located in partner stores, while the second team is couriers who will deliver orders directly to your home.

At launch, the HappyFresh app had around 40.000 unique products to order. HappyFresh has signed exclusive agreements with a number of retailers in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. Areas that have been served by HappyFresh can be checked in the application.

In Jakarta, after the first delivery is provided free of charge, the next hour delivery fee is IDR 50.000 if you spend less than IDR 400.000 and IDR 30.000 if you spend more than IDR 400.000. While the normal shipping costs are IDR 400.000 if you shop for under IDR 400.000, IDR 25.000 if you shop in the range of IDR 400,000 to IDR 700.000, and free if you shop above IDR 700.000. HappyFresh accepts credit card payments and a receipt will be sent to the customer's e-mail.

So far, there are no direct competitors for HappyFresh in Indonesia. The closest may be Go-Jek, which provides any delivery service if the amount is under one million Rupiah.
