Grab and PLN Collaborate to Develop Electric Vehicle Ecosystem in Indonesia

The collaboration between the two includes joint planning, research and development of business models, and implementation of "pilot projects"

Grab and PLN officially work together to develop the ecosystem electric vehicle / electric vehicles in Indonesia. The agreed MoU includes joint planning sessions, business model research and development, and implementation pilot project which has an impact on improving the driving experience with electric vehicles. It also includes technical, business and legal aspects for the development and implementation of e-mobility.

This strategic collaboration was inaugurated directly by the Acting President Director of PT PLN Sripeni Inten and the President Grab Indonesia Ridzki Kramadibrata.

Sripeni expressed her appreciation for the good reception Grab in this early stage of cooperation. He added that the collaboration and support of many parties could accelerate the realization of the use of electric vehicles on all fronts.

"The signing of this memorandum of understanding is very important for us, to accelerate the electrified vehicle program in Indonesia, as we know that PLN received an assignment from the government to provide electricity charging infrastructure for battery-based KBL. This is also proof of commitment and contribution Grab towards government programs for the realization of a better life for Indonesian people," added Sripeni.

Cooperation Grab and PLN will discuss various aspects and implementation of e-mobility in Indonesia, including research and development of business models for market studies for mini scooters, electric motorcycles and electric cars. The two will also do pilot project to measure the feasibility of the innovations presented.

The initiative is planned to be carried out in stages starting from the Jabodetabek area. For now Grab have also done pilot project for two-wheeled and four-wheeled electric vehicles that have charging station from the PLN. Especially for four wheels, charging station and supply electricity will come from PLN.

"Consistent with commitment Grab which was conveyed during Softbank's visit to Indonesia, Grab committed to developing the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia through an investment of USD 2 billion for Indonesia. We believe that electric vehicles can be an option for our driver partners and a long-term solution for Indonesia, especially for reducing air pollution which has recently become a challenge. We are very pleased to be able to continue our commitment through collaboration with PT PLN and can't wait to bring various positive developments to Indonesia," said Ridzki.
