GetGo Wants to Popularize AI to Facilitate Retail Transactions

Have two AI-based products for offline and online transactions

The development of artificial intelligence technology for retail consumers in Indonesia has not been as massive as in more developed countries. The implementation so far is still directed at the needs of corporations or the government, for example by making chatbot or CCTV detection. This void is used GetGo as an AI startup focused on retail consumer transaction solutions.

“We focus on daily transaction problems in retail, even though there are many challenges here that can be solved with AI. AI for retail It's still small [players], even in the region, it's still small," said GetGo Co-Founder and CEO Erdian Tomy to DailySocial.

Besides Erdian, he was accompanied by Andika Rachman as Chief AI Officer in starting GetGo since July last year. Both are strong in their respective backgrounds, for example Erdian who has experience in the field of advertising and Andika is strong in the field of AI.

The journey begins when a shopping problem is found in the store offline, the seller can not know the character and habits of the buyer to do upselling. Buyers can't even feel the shopping experience seamless pattern.

"From there we begin to enter the realm of offline by creating a GetGo Mini Cashier-less Store product, in collaboration with co-working space was in seven locations at the start of this year.”

In this first product, employees from co-working space They can shop for products sold in boxes and pay for them without a cashier. Payment process is done by online. Almost three months running, GetGo managed to get 761 uniqueuser.

This mid-March had to stop because there was an obligation to quarantine at home due to the pandemic spreading in Indonesia. "Finally from March until now our first product had to stop temporarily because all WFH offices, so no employees left."

Erdian and the team finally racked their brains to continue to innovate, finally releasing a second product that targets consumers online named GetGo Visual Search. This product is an API integrated into the platform owner E-commerce so that it can be used by consumers when searching for goods online online.

In the early stages, GetGo can only detect fashion products. The way consumers simply take a picture that they can through the camera feature in the application E-commerce. Product results will be directly listed based on what they are looking for.

“This product is b2b. So we have an API that partners can use E-commerce. Consumers don't need install additional applications because the GetGo AI is already embedded in the application E-commerce the."

Next business plan

Armed with the knowledge gained following the accelerator program Gojek Xcelerate, GetGo is increasingly determined to finalize the second product. Erdian said that currently his party is in the process of agreement with two platforms E-commerce. Also adds AI capabilities to detect furniture products.

"Later on the monetization model, we will charge per month to E-commerce-his. Meanwhile, for Mini Cashier-less products, advertisements are used in each product store-his."

Erdian believes that in the future these two products can be widely accepted and feel the impact in daily transactions. Moreover, this product was built by local people, so there is more value to be offered, apart from pricing which is much cheaper.

“Technology is a commodity that only certain countries cannot use. In the US and China, AI has become a part of life, they used to shop offline without a cashier. We have value, from a much cheaper price and approachthe local way.”

Towards the new normal, he hopes GetGo will be more expansive to develop its business, including seeking funding. So far, the company is still using its own funds bootstrapped. The total GetGo team currently consists of six people and the majority are engineers.
