Former Steam Boss, Jason Holtman, Quits Microsoft

Months before the Xbox One was released, the former Steam director was in the news join Microsoft. This move opens up hope for many that Holtman will improve the service online and Microsoft's marketing strategy for the better. Unfortunately, I don't know what happened, Jason Holtman resigned from Microsoft last January.

That means Jason Holtman only stayed at Microsoft for six months. To understand why Holtman's departure would have such a significant impact on Microsoft, we must understand the chronology of events from when they announced they would disable the Games for Windows Live (GfWL) 'service'.

Long story short, GfWL proved to be a failure to satisfy the fans gamer and its users and Microsoft intend to discontinue it. This momentum seemed fitting because at almost the same time, Holtman joined them.

Holtman's eight years of experience as a Steam director left audiences hoping that he would be the figure capable of overhauling the service system online Microsoft. If we see how Steam treats consumers as it is today, wouldn't it hurt if the same steps would be taken to its new company? Jason Holtman also has a reputation for being able to helm Steam in their tough times.

Reported by neowin from the page LinkedIn Holtman's, he is no longer responsible for managing the entertainment and PC strategy Gaming at Microsoft. The information is replaced with 'Video Games and Entertainment Executive'. There is also information that like Valve, Holtman has also left Microsoft.

So far Jason Holtman hasn't explained the reason for his departure from there, but it's not hard to see that this is a major blow to Microsoft's dream of becoming a leader in the PC world again. Gaming - like a few dozen years ago.

By giving up Holtman and sticking to their old strategy, it looks like Microsoft isn't too committed to updating services in their personal computer entertainment line. Did they abandon the PC because they felt the Xbox One launch was satisfactory?

But it could be that Holtman's resignation from Microsoft signifies something more than meets the eye. Luckily Holtman had no intention of abandoning his passion for video game. Talk to PC Gamer, he admitted that he hadposts said goodbye on Facebook to his colleagues there, "Last week I left Microsoft and said goodbye to friends. Now I'm looking for something interesting and exciting - inside video game of course!"

Microsoft has not yet issued a statement regarding Holtman's departure. I wonder what his next steps will be, returning to work for Steam, or maybe setting up a studio or service online new?
