Fitbit Officially Acquires Part of Pebble's Assets

What is being targeted is intellectual property around software and firmware development and a number of software engineers

Follow rumor that blew a few days ago, Fitbit finally officially announced that they had purchased a number of assets belonging to Pebble. Referring to the press release, the assets include intellectual property in the field of development for mobile devices to report the and firmware and a number of key staff.

Specifically, what Fitbit is aiming for from Pebble is an operating system, apps, and services based on cloud and a software engineer-his. Fitbit apparently not interested in the division hardware Pebble so that in the end Pebble inevitably had to close the company.

The value of this acquisition is rumored to be no more than $40 million dollars, but both parties are reluctant to confirm it. Pebble's own CEO, Eric Migicovsky, will reportedly join the incubator startup well-known Y Combinator.

So what does this mean for Pebble consumers? Well, Pebble ensures that all the products they have marketed will still function as usual, but don't expect any Update routine as before.

Its new products, such as Pebble Time 2 and Pebble Core, were forced to stop being produced and consumers who have already become backers on Kickstarter will receive refund fully. Another story for Pebble 2, distribution SmartWatch It's already partly done, but those who haven't got the item will also receive refund.

At this point we can basically say goodbye to Pebble. I see no sign that Fitbit intends to continue brand Pebble who can be considered as one of the pioneers of the segment w. For Fitbit itself, the acquisition of this asset will further strengthen its position as one of the manufacturers fitness and activity tracker the greatest in the universe.
