East Ventures Adds Genomics Startup Portfolio, Invests in Mesh Bio

As of Q3 2023, 4 genomic/biotech startups have been funded by East Ventures

East Ventures announced investment in Mesh Bio, a startup deep tech in the health sector based in Singapore. There is no mention of the investment value provided. This funding will be allocated to continue developing the technology digital twin or digital twins in chronic disease management and expanding Mesh Bio's services in the Indonesian, Malaysian and Philippine markets.

Mesh Bio was founded in 2018 by Andrew Wu (CEO) and Arsen Batagov (CTO). Its vision is to provide cutting-edge digital solutions to address challenges in patient management and the rise of chronic diseases in the Southeast Asia region. Previously, in 2023, Mesh Bio also received initial funding of $1,8 million led by Elev8.vc and Seeds Capital.

Issue to be resolved

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) or chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, pose a large and growing burden on health and development in the Southeast Asia region. In this region, according to WHO, 62% of all deaths are caused by PTM, which amounts to 9 million people.

The increase in chronic diseases makes patient management complicated, coupled with a shortage of doctors, especially specialist doctors, so that general practitioners who lack specialist training in the field of endocrinology are forced to handle cases of chronic disease patients.

"Given the increasing aging population worldwide, Mesh Bio has consistently prioritized the development of innovative solutions to reduce healthcare barriers associated with chronic diseases. We are pleased to receive support from East Ventures, and we are confident that this funding will provide a strong foundation in supporting our vision we are solving the problem of the increasing burden of chronic diseases in Southeast Asia," explained Mesh Bio Co-Founder & CEO Andrew Wu.

Have developed a predictive analytics platform

One of the products that we already have Mesh Bio is DARA, namely a platform that provides multidimensional patient data real-time, which includes medical history, laboratory tests, and medical images. DARA provides visual patient reports so that it can assist doctors in providing counseling to patients and enable patients to understand laboratory reports and the disease they are suffering from.

Based on this data, DARA provides predictive analysis to identify patients at risk of chronic disease so they can receive earlier diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, the platform also enables physicians to gain and utilize knowledge from a global community of healthcare practitioners in line with best clinical practices and guidelines, as well as holistic patient assessment.

"Mesh Bio's innovative approach and cutting-edge technology has the potential to be one of the foundations for providing a better healthcare system in the Southeast Asia region. We believe that predictive analysis and preventative healthcare can provide many benefits to society, and we are confident that Mesh Bio will lead the revolution this is with a machine digital twin them," said Co-Founder & Managing Partner of East Ventures Willson Cuaca.
