Alpha JWC Ventures Support for Indonesian Startups in 2022

Will provide investment to 8-10 startups throughout 2022, especially in initial funding up to series A

After successfully closing third managed fund worth $433 million at the end of 2021, a lot of plans that Alpha JWC Ventures wants to launch. Still focused on providing funding of around 80% to Indonesian startups, they want to provide more support to most startups that have entered their portfolio or are doing follow-onfunding.

To DailySocial.id, Alpha JWC Ventures partner Eko Kurniadi revealed, with this new managed fund, they have plans to provide investment to 8-10 startups every year, especially in initial funding up to series A.

"We just closed Fund III at the end of 2021, but we have started investing since mid-2021. Alpha JWC has investment rate very quickly as expected, because the market is currently doing well. In early 2022, although there is a slight macro situation, we are seeing particularly in early stage tidak slow down," said Eko.

Recorded in 2021, they already have 4 unicorn in its portfolio (Carro, Kredivo, Magical, Memories Coffee), with 14 centaur. Last year is also claimed to be very important for Alpha JWC, as the company has invested in 29 deals (deals) with a value of more than $80 million; and welcomes 18 new startups in Southeast Asia to its portfolio.

These new companies are aggregators E-commerce  UnaBrands; platforms aftermarket automotive online and offline Carro; and SaaS for business ESB food and beverage.

"Currently we are still focusing on initial funding up to the series A stage. venture capital Alpha JWC with larger funding will provide investments up to Series C," said Eko.

Startup trends in 2022

This year, Alpha JWC Ventures noted that there are several categories of startups that are their priorities and are predicted to experience positive growth. Among others are fintech with several sub-categories namely wealth management, digital bankand service infrastructure as bank as a service.

The second category is trade, especially for e-groceries and quick commerce. In addition to Automotive which is also still a concern for Alpha JWC, the platform that offers products for mothers and babies to beauty products is also predicted to experience better growth this year. This includes the D2C platform which is predicted to produce 2-3 top players this year.

Meanwhile, for B2B segment platforms such as marketplace platforms and SaaS, especially those who targeting MSMEs, is still the concern of Alpha JWC. This includes players who focus on completing supply chains in the FMCG industry, aquaculture, and agriculture. The last category seen will continue to be popular throughout the year is web 3,0 like blockchain, NFT, and more.

"I'm also starting to see business model ratio as buy and build began to be applied in other verticals for example F&B. It becomes ideal for operators if there is a good brand then bought and raised. The concept is similar to model ratio," said Eko.

When asked about what Alpha JWC supports for startups that are included in the acceleration and incubator program, Eko mentioned that this year they will also add support to the program. Judging from the growing development of the startup ecosystem today, it makes all parties help to grow together.
