Doyobi's Edtech Platform Focuses on Presenting STEM Curriculum in Schools

Doyobi is from Singapore and has received Pre-Series A funding. Partnering with a number of schools in Indonesia

The large role of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)-based teaching for children is one of the reasons why platforms like Doyobi are present. Founded in 2020 in Singapore, this platform specifically empowers teachers through the application of STEM-based learning methods. The company this October received Pre-Series A funding led by Monk's Hill Ventures.

Via platform coding without the need for basic programming skills, educators Doyobi teaching using STEM-based learning methods in a fun and interactive way. Apart from Asian countries, a number of schools in African countries have also adopted the Doyobi curriculum.

Providing materials from grade 1 to grade 12 (elementary to high school), the company wants to position teachers as coaches, mentors or guides for students while learning in class.

"For this reason, the Doyobi team provides training to teachers so that they can appear more confident when the learning process is carried out directly. Thus, their function is not only as teachers but also student guides," said John.

Several schools that are currently Doyobi's partners are Leap Surabaya, Codercadamy, HighScope Indonesia, Mutiara Harapan Islamic School, and Stella Gracia School. The monetization strategy applied is the imposition of fees on schools. Since its launch, the Doyobi virtual learning environment has been used by almost 2 thousand teachers in more than 10 countries. Indonesia and the Philippines are Doyobi's two biggest markets.

Supported by the spirit of the government which has begun to see the importance of developing insight and skill STEM, Doyobi hopes that in the future more partners in Indonesia will join.

"In the future, if possible, Doyobi can establish strategic cooperation with the Indonesian government by providing STEM curriculum in schools. We see the Indonesian Minister of Education, who has a technology background, can support our programs and curriculum," said John.

A . Pre-Series Funding

This October, Doyobi successfully completed a $2,8 million (Rp39 billion) Pre-Series A funding round led by Monk's Hill Ventures. Other investors participating in this round were Tresmonos Capital, Novus Paradigm Capital, and XA Network.

Also involved in this round are angel investors Singaporean leaders, such as Quek Siu Rui (CEO Carousell), Oswald Yeo and Seah Ying Cong (Co-Founders of Glints), and Reuben Lai (Head of Grab Financial Group).

The fresh funds will be used to launch courses and group training aimed at improving teacher skills. This initiative is aimed at developing the resources needed to help teachers teach using STEM-based learning methods effectively. Also in focus are current skills, such as critical and creative thinking in the classroom.

Doyobi will also use the funds to support the Teachers as Humans community, an online community for teachers to support each other and get opportunities to develop themselves professionally.

"John and his team's approach of combining STEM-based learning methods with 21st century skills delivered through virtual learning environments will drive the education system forward," said Peng T. Ong, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Monk's Hill Ventures.

In Indonesia itself, science learning platforms, which are mostly related to learning programming science, are carried out informally. While the STEM platform for schoolchildren is usually covered in the edtech platform in general.
