Cotter Acquired by Competitors, Founders Now Focus on Building Typedream

Founded by an Indonesian founder based in the United States; had joined the Y Combinator accelerator program

Platform passwordless login Cotter was officially acquired by Stytch, a startup that also provides similar authentication and authorization services. This was conveyed by Co-Founder & CEO of Cotter Kevin Chandra through their official blog. Stytch itself has just received $2021 million in series B funding in early November 90, bringing the company's valuation to $1 billion.

For Cotter users, they will still get support until March 31, 2022. After that the platform will be discontinued. The hope is that at that time, users will be able to make the transition to Stytch, considering that both startups have similar services.

Based in the United States, Cotter was founded by founders from Indonesia. Besides Kevin there are several others including Michelle Marcelline, Albert Putra Purnama, Anthony Harris Christian, and Putri Karunia. Cotter himself also briefly entered the Y Combinator accelerator program in 2020.

Platform passwordless

When implemented on a site or app, Cotter allows users to login without having to enter a password. Users simply enter an email address, then the system will send a unique link to the verification email and continue to enter the application. Besides being safer, this mechanism is considered more effective in increasing conversions and user retention.

Both Cotter and Stytch package the service into a Platform as a Service (PaaS), allowing developers to deploy the system quickly via an API connection. For Cotter itself, besides being able to be applied to applications or sites that were developed from scratch, it can also be embedded in web builder such as Webflow, Bubble, Versoly, Notion, and Typedream.

Kevin also conveyed that currently Cotter has been used by more than 3000 developers to support their applications. The service also skyrocketed after getting featured at Product Hunt earlier this year. "We started our journey with Cotter almost 2 years ago, when we ventured into the developer community, indie hackers, and no-coders. From there, we discovered new ways to help developers build their products faster through the authentication SDK passwordless to manage user login flow,” said Kevin.

However, for platforms login In fact, currently the options are quite broad. Some use an SMS/WhatsApp-based authentication model, some have even implemented a biometric-based system. PaaS for each of these needs is also widely available in the market – which can be used instantly by developer.

Focus on Typedream

After this acquisition, Kevin and the team will focus on Typedream. That is the platform no code web builder to make it easier for users to create a web without having programming skills. Previously in an interview with DailySocial.id, Kevin said that in one corporate entity they did develop the two platforms. So now they can focus more on one of them.

Typedream itself is capitalizing on the momentum of growing interest in -based services no code, help individuals and MSMEs who need web-based digital solutions, but have difficulty understanding programming. Typedream has also booked seed funding from And Combinator and a number of angel investors.

"Typedream is a no-code website builder which is as easy to use as Squarespace or Wix, but produces output that looks as beautiful as Webflow [...] developing a website is like editing a document in Google Docs or Notion" said Kevin describing the service.

"When we put Cotter in good hands, we are excited to give more to the community no code developed with Typedream. Thanks to the love and support of the community, we have been named Product Hunt's Product of the Month in July 2021," added Kevin.

Currently their base is in San Francisco, but with the service being developed they hope to serve the global market -- including users in Indonesia.

Service potential no code

According to the OutSystems report, platform low-code and no code continues to increase the number of fans. Throughout 2019-2020, there were 41% of global companies that used this service. In 2021, its market size is estimated to have reached $17,7 billion and will increase to $125,4 billion in 2027.

Kevin also said, the market value of website builder services is estimated at $12 billion. Currently there are at least 64 million websites created through similar services, and 64,1% of them use WordPress.

Service ecosystem no code itself is very broad. Not only for website purposes, but also applications mobile devices, data, payments, analytics, and more.
