Cakap Language Learning Platform Pockets Series B Funding, Focuses on Developing "Artificial Intelligence" Tech Features

This funding round was led by KB-MDI Centauri Fund and Heritas Capital

After pocketing series A+ pendanaan funding worth $3 million or equivalent to Rp42,6 billion Rupiah at the end of 2020, this December Cakap again obtained Series B funding worth $10 million (more than Rp140 billion Rupiah). This funding round was led by the KB-MDI Centauri Fund and Heritas Capital. Also participating were KB Investment and other investors who were not disclosed further.

The fresh funds will later be used by the company to expand the offering of certified courses, as well as to drive market expansion in providing better access to high-quality education in Indonesia. Cakap also wants to improve their learning technology by exploring the application machine learning and artificial intelligence, which allows learning progress to be more personal to each student through adaptive learning.

In the last two years Cakap has been profitable, has succeeded in building credibility and gaining growth by acquiring 1,5 Million students, with 500% YoY growth in active students and downloads of more than 1 million applications. This Series B funding round also closes the company's achievements this year, with good growth through profitability and a role in supporting distance learning as a solution to minimize the impact of the pandemic.

Empowering students and teachers

Cakap is one of the largest edtech platforms in Indonesia that develops online learning applications with two-way interaction between students and teachers through video calls and text conversations. This concept enables two-way learning interactions for life skills learning across Asia Pacific.​

So far, Cakap claims to have led online language courses for the Adult and Children segment in Indonesia. As a technology platform it allows Cakap to offer their subscription services at affordable prices compared to the concept of offline tutoring services. Cakap has also empowered more than 1.000 teachers in all regions. In the future, Cakap has plans for expansion of new markets and technological advances.
