BRI Appoints Indra Utoyo as Director, Strengthens Fintech Elements in the Company

Director of Innovation & Strategic Portfolio of PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) Indra Utoyo was officially elected as director of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BRI) replacing Zulhelfi Abidin‎. The election of Telkom officials is nothing but to strengthen BRI's digital business. In his statement, Deputy President Director of BRI Sunarso say that now the company fully understands the urgency to enter the realm of fintech, including carrying out digital transformation according to the pace of modern consumer needs.

Previously, one of BRI's business development targets had emerged. Budgeting Rp2 trillion, in addition to strengthening the banking sector and component itself, BRI plans to establish a sub-business in the form of venture capital to continue its involvement in encouraging MSME business in Indonesia. BRI is also in the middle aim venture companies to realize these goals.

Related to challenges fintech, the current director of BRI Asmawi Syam explained: strategy, namely by building a system digital banking. BRI is well aware that the target fintech are the younger generation, the most consumptive people who continue to erode the majority of financial transactions.

"The challenges for banking in the future will be even more difficult. We will face fintech. We have to think as best we can," explained Asmawi.

Speaking of experiences, together with Telkom, Indra Utoyo is known as a digital creative economy activist. Several startup development programs are directly under his control, including the Indigo Creative Nation program which continues to target the best startups in Indonesia to date. In addition to sitting in the directorship of Telkom, Indra Utoyo also serves as Chairman of the Indonesian Information & Communication Technology Creative Industry Society (MIKTI).
