BKPM Officially Opens Investment Licensing Service Online

In an effort to stimulate the investment climate in Indonesia, BKPM (Investment Coordination Agency) Monday (15/12) yesterday officially launched SPIPISE Online service. The head of BKPM Franky Sibarani stated that the first step in this implementation was to implement the oneone policy pintu and streamlining the investment licensing process for local and foreign investors.

As quoted from Jakarta Globe, Franky said that starting December 15, all licensing forms to BKPM can be submitted online. Investors can register directly without having to go to the BKPM office. They can also monitor the process via online tracking system which are available.

The BKPM online system, which has actually been initiated since 2010, is currently able to process 11 types of permits under the authority of the BKPM, such as licenses to establish or expand a business. Service is available in English and Indonesian. If it runs smoothly, this system will facilitate the process of entering investment in Indonesia. “We are optimistic that this idea will be completed by the end of January. We prioritize 600 types of businesses out of a total of 1249 categories. The rest will be completed in June,” said Franky, who did not provide details. Licensing under the authority of BKPM does not cover the banking, oil and gas sectors.

Franky, who was appointed head of BKPM by President Joko Widodo last November, said that BKPM would implement this policy with the central government and ministries in January 2015. After that it would be gradually integrated into local governments throughout Indonesia. All of these plans are expected to be completed in 2016.

Policy one pintu was first mentioned by former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, although its implementation has been very slow. This is allegedly due to the lack of good cooperation between ministries, institutions and local governments. Policies to streamline the licensing process that are not complicated will encourage the investment climate and economic stability in Indonesia, including the progress of the creative economy in Indonesia.
