BlackGarlic Confirms Service Closure

Sales of ready-to-eat ingredients for BlackGarlic Express will be continued by the William Wongso Culinary team

Ready-to-cook on-demand service BlackGarlic announced it will be closing its services on July 15th. After that date, the BlackGarlic Express service, which sells cooking spices and ready-to-eat ingredients, will be taken over by the William Wongso Kuliner team as the developer of this product. The BlackGarlic team will be operating until 19 July.

This information ironically appeared when role model this service in the United States, Blue Apron, is actually being preparing myself for go public on the stock exchange. Implicitly, this kind of business model has not been able to sustain the survival of the startup, which is almost two years old, even though they have served 80 thousand portions of food with almost 1000 menus and 10 thousand different consumers.

Black Garlic founded by a successful team developing on-demand food delivery services Click eat, which then acquired Japanese service Yume no Machi. They work closely with the William Wongso Kuliner team, with Olivia Wongso being the Chief Product Officer of BlackGarlic.

In his statement, Co-Founder and CEO of BlackGarlic Michael Saputra said, "My success in previous startups does not guarantee that this journey will be a success. Although we all know that not all businesses will be successful, but my experience is closing a business that I have started with co-founders for 2 years. my founders, with all the ups and downs, the tears and the hard work still hurts so much."

However, Michael ensures that this failure brings a lot of experience compared to his previous success.

There is no open information about the amount of investment that BlackGarlic raised during its operation, but Skystar Capital and Convergence Ventures are among the investors who have invested in this service.

In an interview with DailySocial around 4 months ago, Michael said the focus this year was consumer loyalty and they brought weekly subscription plans and site updates. Unfortunately these ideals ran aground and this service had to be closed.

Hopefully, this closing will not be the end of the work of Michael and the BlackGarlic development team in coloring the Indonesian technology startup ecosystem.
