BRI Partners Grab for Online Account Opening Services

Leveraging digital platforms to reach more customers

Recently BRI was known to cooperate Grab as one of the digital platform partners to encourage based account opening online (digital savings).

Collaboration with Grab adding to BRI's collaboration with digital platforms in Indonesia. Previously, BRI had collaborated with Tokopedia and Traveloka for Introducing BRI Ceria or digital loans for financing transactions through E-commerce or online travel sites.

BRI is known to be intensively increasing the number of customers through digital platforms. A week earlier, BRI had just introduced a digital account opening service through the BRI Open Account platform. This service can be accessed via the official website Bukarekening.bri.co.id.

This service allows customers to create new accounts without the need to come to the bank and meet face-to-face with officers. Companies take advantage of technology face recognition and digitalsignature on the KYC process. Prospective customers who create accounts online will automatically become a BRI internet banking user (BRImo).

"We are targeting to add 1 million new customers through channel account opening online this," said BRI Consumer Director Handayani in an official statement.

Contacted separately, BRI Director of Digital, Information Technology, and Operations Indra Utoyo revealed that this collaboration is one of the big pictures of this state-owned bank towards the era of "banking everywhere".

"Now opening a savings account does not have to go through the BRImo application. Prospective customers can use the platform from partners e-commerce, ride-sharing, fintech, and others. This platform becomes front-end of our service, "said Indra to DailySocial.

Digital saving by leveraging digital platforms

As is known, Indonesian banks are now more open in utilizing digital technology to increase the number of their customers. Not only application-based banking services and Open API, but also offers digital-based account opening.

A number of banks already offer account opening services online, but mostly still through the app mobile banking, as in the proprietary app BRI, CIMB Niaga, Mandiri, and PermataBank.

In the case of BRI, companies use digital platforms as front-end for digital banking services. So far, BRI has collaborated with Grab, Tokopedia (BRI Ceria), and Tokopedia (BRI Ceria).

This signifies the efforts of Indonesian banks to change the conventional approach to consumers. Moreover, there are still many segments unbanked in Indonesia where limited access to branch offices is one of the obstacles. This collaboration becomes strategic with the support of the platform and the customer base of the application.
