The gateway to the world of investment

Precious metal gold continues to be an investment choice for the wider community because it can be a safe haven during a market crash, and is considered sharia-compliant. During the pandemic, volatility in stock-based assets boosted demand for safe-haven assets such as gold. Currently, the price of gold is at a new level, which is an average of IDR 820 thousand per gram, up 41% from the 2018 average price of IDR 570 thousand per gram, so gold can be a long-term investment choice for investors.

This investment alternative can be considered as pintu gateway to introduce the world of investment to more new investors, especially since this instrument is so familiar to Indonesians.

Jakpat survey results at the beginning of this year showed as many as 46% of respondents in Indonesia have gold investments. This figure is the highest compared to other instruments, such as mutual funds (32%) and bank deposits (30%). Next, stocks (22%), property (18%), foreign exchange (10%), and only 5%-7% chose bonds and sukuk. Meanwhile, there are still 29% who do not invest.
