Zilingo Inaugurates Presence, Ambitious to Dominate the Indonesian Market

The newly acquired 744 billion Rupiah investment will be mostly directed towards the development of the Indonesian market

Marketplace fashion Zilingo inaugurated its presence in Indonesia. This expansion is the second time that the Thai company has made it after they officially opened their presence in Singapore. Zilingo's operations in Indonesia actually started in February 2017 with a team of 7 people, and has now grown to 50 people.

To compete with similar business players, Zilingo has prepared a number of marketing strategies, starting from advertising on various platforms (television to online) and attracting sellers of various business scales. All of this is done to improve brand awareness for people millennials as target consumers.

These strategies will also be supported by Zilingo's newly acquired fresh fund of US$54 million (approximately Rp744 billion). The series C funding was led by Sofina, Burda Principal Investments and Sequoia Capital India. Amadeus Capital also joined as a new investor.

Other investors who participated in this round were Tim Draper, SIG, Venturra, Beenext, Manik Arora, and Wavemaker. This round surpassed the series B investment achieved by the company five months ago, which amounted to US$17 million. When totaled with the latest acquisitions, Zilingo has now earned US$82 million.

"We thank all investors for continuing to show great confidence in our team and vision for fashion trading in the region," said Ankiti Bose, Co-Founder and CEO.

According to him, Indonesia is a country with the fastest business growth compared to the other two countries. Overall, growth merchant who have joined have reached more than 10 thousand units, about 15% of them come from Indonesia.

Zilingo users alone have reached 5 million people, 20% of them (about 1 million people) are from Indonesia. The total SKU owned by the company reaches 2 million items with a percentage of 35% from Indonesia.

"In the last six months, Zilingo's business in Indonesia has grown almost 7 times in general."

Zilingo will continue to add partnerships with sellers of various business scales. With various types of partners, it will certainly make it easier for consumers to choose products according to their individual tastes.

The company will also bring supplies of products from abroad, from brand classy, ​​to make it easier for Indonesian consumers to find genuine quality imported fashion products. So far, Zilingo has supplies spread across China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Cambodia that are ready to send goods to Zilingo's operational countries.

For local sellers, they will also be assisted by Zilingo to market their products on an international scale. Thus, more and more Indonesian products will be go global.

Zilingo business model

By business model, Zilingo is marketplace linking merchant fashion with users. The company does not provide a warehouse to store goods and make deliveries. Instead, creating an ecosystem that allows every seller to make good product offerings, while the task of selling online is taken care of by Zilingo.

Zilingo has more than 25 logistics and payment API integrations that allow sellers to ship from one location to multiple countries. At the same time, the Zilingo seller center allows merchants to manage online stores in any language and currency of their choice, sell in many different countries, and accept payments internationally in local currency.

Zilingo also helps merchants in terms of working capital financing, insurance, next day delivery. In addition, it also provides warehousing and packaging services, cataloging, video production, photo shoots, to business consulting and skills-based training.

Company opening pintu wide for merchants who want to join, they don't charge either listing fees. It's just that there is a commission agreement that traders must give to Zilingo if the transaction is successful.

"We have a team quality control in charge of ensuring that the goods sold by traders are genuine. If someone sells luxury goods, our team will go to them and ask for the original certificate as proof.
