YouTube Offers Paid Services

Amid the news about the certainty of the New York Times' decision to implement paid content in early 2011, the Times will implement a metered system. Now it's YouTube's turn to charge for some video content from their site. But calm down first, those of you who are already avid watching videos from YouTube will not be immediately forced to pay for videos on YouTube.

Last January 20th via official blog they YouTube announced their partnership with the Sundance Film Festival. Starting this Friday, YouTube will rent out the 5 Festival films to moviegoers taken from the 2010 and 2009 collections. However, this rental is only for users from the US.

YouTube itself reasons, that this collaboration will benefit indie filmmakers. With intense film competition, the cost of making films and their promotion costs will also increase, and YouTube as one of the most popular video content providers wants to be a liaison between these indie film creators and film lovers. So it is possible that many indie films that we already know are good, can be spread and enjoyed. Because many good indie films are not heard due to poor distribution.

I was reminded of the famous Google slogan 'Don't Be Evil', YouTube as one of Google's product lines seems to want to apply this principle and alluring the hearts of fans and indie film creators to embrace them. I'm sure YouTube already has calculations about market share, because as stated on their blog, 'anything that brings more content to the YouTube community is a good thing', so it's certain that with the increase in the collection of quality videos to YouTube, it will also bring new users.

The fee charged for those who want to rent this film, as written ReadWriteWeb is $5, it's pretty cheap for a film festival, it's definitely cheaper than the ticket prices for cinema tickets in the US With a rental system, video content will not be passed on to users, the creators retain the film's license and they can manage their own video distribution system. .

But, I happen to be a bit allergic to paid content (except applications that do provide a certain system or capacity, such as the freemium system), so I'm even a little worried, this YouTube-style paid system will develop in an annoying direction, such as having to spend a few dollars to enjoy all the features of YouTube, not like now. Although this possibility is small, but in internet business anything can happen. Like the Times' decision to finally implement paid news content.

The business model for paid video content, or paid music does seem to be far from being implemented in Indonesia Indonesia, even if it is, it must also be adjusted to the character of the consumers here who are sometimes strange too, for example, buying a CD you don't want the original but if you buy a ring back tone, you can be addicted to changing it 3 times a week. :)

Okay, this YouTube-style rental system has just been implemented in the US, let's see how it develops in the future, what YouTube will do to get revenue. While waiting, there is nothing wrong if you have comments on the development of this YouTube, the comments column is always available to fill.
