Valve Is Working on a New Game, Utilizing Source 2 and Set in the Half-Life Universe?

Gabe Newell also shared that his team is interested in making virtual reality games.

A joke on the internet says that Valve Corp. has stopped creating game since they started 'making money'. Providing digital distribution services is currently their main business, but Valve is still able to maintain its reputation as a game developer - We will see Update epic implemented in Dota 2 last December.

Shortly after successfully setting a record concurrent users Steam's highest (first time 14 million people access Steam together), the co-founder Gabe Newell holds an Ask Me Anything session at Reddit. There, Valve is known to be working on one or more new video games. Details are minimal, but Gabe's explanation indicates some probabilities.

First, Newell confirmed Valve Corp. concocting single-player games. Then answer the question of whether developer will return to using the Half-Life universe, the co-founder respond with a 'yes.' Of course, this info is not a validation of the existence of Half-Life 3, because you need to remember, the Portal series (1 and 2) are also in-setting in the same world as Half-Life.

Furthermore, Gabe reported that his team is also very interested in making games Virtual Reality. For Valve, VR is an important presentation tool game. Unfortunately it's not yet known what their approach will be, and I myself hope the game is made 'more serious' from The Lab which is basically just a bundle of eight mini game to demonstrate the power of SteamVR and HTC Vive.

In another of Gabe's answers, Valve is reportedly designing game VR compatible with 'knuckle controller', most likely is accessories prototype which they showed off at the Steam Dev Days 2016 event.

At the AMA session, Gabe confirmed that Valve would continue to use engine Source 2 in working on digital works, also uses it as the foundation for several 'new products' that have yet to be announced - Valve continues to encourage all staff to adopt it.

When asked about the future of the Left 4 Dead series, Newell said that Valve was always trying to integrate new technologies into their new products, and according to him, franchise Left 4 Dead is the right medium to be a foundation 'shared narratives'.

Valve itself has long been rumored to be brewing Left 4 Dead 3. And the information from Gabe above also indicates the efforts of the developer to 'move' Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2 to Source 2.

Hopefully Valve will make an announcement regarding game or their new agenda in the near future.
