Valve Announces Half-Life: Alyx, Its First VR Blockbuster Game

Half-Life: Alyx will be the first Half-Life game that Valve will release in a decade.

More than 12 years have passed since Half-Life 2: Episode Two was released. The majority of fans have accepted the fact that Valve may not continue the story of Gordon Freeman's adventure and just let it hang. Not only Half-Life, Left 4 Dead and Dota even stopped at the number 'two', and this sparked a joke among gamer: Valve seems to be afraid of the number three.

But this week there was shocking news regarding the Half-Life series. No, Valve did not announce Half-Life 2: Episode Three. What they reveal is Half-Life: Alyx, the game Virtual Reality class blockbuster premiere. For now, the developer has not announced what this game will be like. Details about Half-Life: Alyx are scheduled to be revealed on Thursday.

The interesting thing about the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx is that Valve did it through the official (and also verified) Twitter account they just created last June. News about Half-Life: Alyx is tweet first. There is a great opportunity, through this account developer will reveal information about their new VR game in the future.

A little explanation for those of you who are less familiar with Half-Life 2, Alyx, and the subsequent episodic adventures:

Half-Life 2 was released in 2004 as a sequel to the game shooter which became Valve's debut in the industry Gaming. After the Half-Life 2 project was completed, Valve still has ambitions to continue the adventures of the protagonist, Gordon Freeman, but with a shorter development duration (the development of Half-Life 2 took six years). Finally it was decided, game Half-Life was subsequently released in episode form.

Half Life 2: Episode One premiered on June 1, 2006, followed by Episode Two in October 2007 as part of the The Orange Box bundle (accompanied by Portal, Team Fortress 2 and the original Half-Life 2). Unfortunately, Valve didn't say much about Episode Three the following year and the game never arrived. In 2011, game finally labeled vaporware - that is /hardware whose existence had been announced to the public but was never produced.

Then what or who is Alyx? Alyx Vance is a character non-playable important in Half-Life 2 as well as Episodes One and Two. Alyx faithfully accompanies Freeman on his journey and has received many praises from international game media because of his outstanding characteristics non-mainstream. Apart from being tough, Alyx is also smart and articulate. Many people think that Alyx's response and words represent how they feel gamer to every event in the game world.

I suspect, Half-Life: Alyx will let you play for the first time as your favorite NPC. The question is, is game this in-setting before Alyx Vance meets Gordon Freeman or will he continue the adventure that was stopped in Episode Two? For sure, Half-Life: Alyx will be game Valve's first Half-Life to launch in a decade.
