496 students from all over Indonesia participated in the screening of the training stage, students who passed will be given intensive coding and programming assistance

Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) is a global Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education program for young people. Samsung Electronics Indonesia takes this program as an effort and support in increasing the capacity and success of innovation in Indonesia which is still low through education.

This year the Samsung Innovation Campus has been held since January and 496 students from all over Indonesia participated in the training stage screening and were divided into 119 teams. Entering the training stage which will last until October, only students who successfully pass the screening will be honed in their ability to innovate through mentoring. coding and Programming intensively for 12 weeks. Until participants can complete digital product prototypes, make presentations, and propose solutions at the end of the training.

"Ranking 85 out of 131 countries in the 2020 Global Innovation Index, indicates that Indonesia still has to encourage the growth of its culture and innovation ecosystem to be more optimal. Therefore, the SIC program plays a role in introducing and utilizing technology that is in accordance with the development of the current generation. Through the provision of coding and SIC programming, the younger generation can gain the skills needed by the industry now and in the future, as well as open opportunities for them to become a generation that can provide solutions in society through innovation.," said Ennita Pramono, Head of Corporate Citizenship at Samsung Electronics Indonesia.

Samsung emphasizes the development of skills and thought processes in the SIC program as the main focus, participants must follow a series of innovation briefings coding and Programming with basic material Problem Definition, Design Thinking, UX/UI (user experience/user interface), HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Participants are also required to provide a solution to a problem in the form of a video and complete several tasks coding to create a simple website. These two tasks are indicators of the assessment of participants' progress to the training stage.

Students who pass and have been screened into 13 teams by Samsung and Skilvul – Samsung's partners in running the SIC program, they can also participate in the 2021 SIC Project Competition. The team consisting of a total of 46 students comes from: SMK Negeri 2 Surakarta, SMK Negeri 1 Geger Madiun, SMK Negeri 1 Martapura, SMK Negeri 1 Cimahi, SMK Negeri 10 Makassar, and SMK Muhammadiyah Kudus.

"In the product development training of the SIC program, the points that participants need to focus on are the main target of the application or product, and the main features in their application. Why is that? Because the function of the application must be able to answer the problems faced by the customer or target user. So, participants need to detail what the main features are really suitable and needed. Don't create useless features, because they can deviate from the problem you want to solve. Therefore, they must sharpen the features by determining the main features and supporting features," said William Hendradjaja, Chief of Business Skilvul.

In developing applications according to their needs, each participant must be observant to see the problems around them such as the environment, health, education, social, reading interest, and employment opportunities. Participants must understand very well the ideas they come up with to address what problems, who are the target users, what action plans in developing their ideas will look like, and the support they need in developing this idea who and in what form should they ask for help.

"We hope that through the SIC program, young innovators will emerge who are able to produce innovative products and grow a new mindset in gathering and applying the power of science and technology to respond, overcome, and overcome problems in the surrounding environment. In the end, the innovations presented are able to answer the needs of the market and industry, and make Indonesia a better place," concluded Ennita.
