Sony Bans PSN Account Owner Named Jihad

With the ban dropped, Jihad was unable to access his account, online services, game collection, including those he bought offline.

Generally, dropping ban is the last resort taken by digital service providers if users commit serious violations or do not heed warnings, for example using cheat or abuse user other. But not long ago, Sony was known to do ban on user platform them for ridiculous reasons.

Jihad Khalid Al-Mofadda, a 26-year-old youth, has been a member of the PlayStation Network since the PS3 era. His account is more than five years old, and he has received the Trophy since 2010. His PSN identity itself is taken from the first name of the singer. user, iJihad. So far, all activities have been running without problems, until recently Sony decided toban Jihad regarding his ID.

By dropping it ban, Jihad can't access accounts, services online, collection game, including the ones he bought privately offline. As evidence, Jihad recorded a video and uploaded it to Twitter. And to support the argument and prove his name was really Jihad, Al-Mofadda sent a copy of the passport to Sony. It also reminds the console maker that there are many other PSN IDs named Jihad - about 9.800 players.

There are 9.800 with an account called Jihad.

Actually Al-Mofadda was sent an email by Sony. Creator team consul it offered a renaming opportunity, to which he responded by providing a number of alternatives. But after Sony accepted, Jihad said the offer was canceled, and he got ban permanent. You can see Sony's argument for yourself in the email below. According to them, the identity of PSN Al-Mofadda was considered 'inappropriate'.

Jihad voiced his arguments to Sony in an email.

Although the term Jihad has recently given a negative impression, especially in Western countries, Al-Mofadda explains that Jihad actually means 'to strive or strive, especially for a noble and positive cause'.

Answers and 'sympathies' from Sony...

After this situation became a hot discussion in Reddit and getting media attention, Sony eventually apologized and tried to negotiate a solution. Unfortunately, they still demand Jihad to change the name with the effect ofreset all Trophy progress and clear connection data (friends list). On the plus side, Jihad is regaining its games.

Sony considers the ID named iJihad 'inappropriate' to use.

There are two things that are still bothering me. The first was when Sony offered to change the name, then suddenly withdrew it. Second, with 9.800 other accounts called Jihad, why do manufacturers only implement ban on Al-Mofadda? Moreover, although 'Jihad' has a special meaning, in this case Jihad is a person's name.
