Social Media is the Most Information Contributor in Indonesia

Today, the internet has become a basic need for mankind. This is based on the results of a survey conducted by the Association of Indonesian Internet Service Providers (APJII), which stated that the number of Indonesians connected to the internet in the 2021-2022 period was 210.026.796 out of a total population of 272.682.600. This number increased by 3,32% from the results of a survey of domestic internet users for the 2019-2020 period.

In the Kominfo survey results in 2022, the majority of internet use occurs significantly between 19.01 - 21.00. Even though compared to the previous year there were fewer hours, overall these hours were the most crowded hours for people to use the internet. Internet use during these hours indicates that people use the internet outside of their working hours.

In using the internet, of course, many goals to be achieved. One of the main things in using the internet is to access information. Social media is the biggest source of information from year to year. In the last 3 years, people have a tendency to use social media as a source of information, even though it has decreased.

Of the many types of social media in Indonesia, WhatsApp is the social media most used by the public, followed by Facebook and YouTube. Social media is also believed to help people follow and find out about conditions, activities, news from friends or people they know. Mainly, the use of social media is to assist in communication and interaction with other social media users.
